BEDFORD RASCAL ROMAHOME CAMPERVAN Offers around £1,700
970CC Manual Petrol
Hi and welcome to the sale of my beloved Romahome 'Daisy'
I paid a lot more, and even more getting it all running perfectly, but I know I won't get that back! Does run very well now!
Really cheap to run, does around 130 miles on £25 petrol
Lightweight and easy to drive, despite having no powered steering, turns on a sixpence!
Engine serviced around 300 miles ago, and just flown through MOT for the second year with no cautionary notes, new back tyres, good front tyres.
Usual dings, surface rust only. Undercarriage welded and sealed by previous owner and still in vgc. I've lost the front two wheel trims (I blame the state of the roads!), so have sprayed white. Easily replacable if required.
Nearly 12 months MOT: Taxed until the end of September 2009 (Tax is lowest band rate=£66)
Speed merchants please don't bother - this camper is a little old lady (like me LOL!). She does 55mph top speed, and would rather cruise at 45-50!
Having said that, she does cope extremely well with hills and long distances. I went to the Outer Hebrides last year in her. I took my time, and had three overnight stops before getting to the ferry - in total, 1000 road miles, not counting the sea miles. Lowest (small car) fare on the ferries!
Please note that the movelite awning is NOT for sale.
Very reluctant reason for sale is that I can't afford to keep 2 vehicles on the road and, as I'm disabled, I'm having more and more difficulty driving a geared vehicle.
There's a short video of my trip with a friend to the Outer Hebredes on YouTube:

This is a Bedford Rascal Pickup vehicle, with a demountable Romahome 'Pod' attached. The Pod is lightweight and made of fibreglass, so will never rot or leak. It is double skinned - fibreglass outside and light ply inside making for warmer indoors in colder weather. It is lined along roof and sides with lightweight carpet which has elimated all condensation problems.
The Pod is a Mark 1, the original and some say collectable version! ;D The Mark 1 does not have side opening, double glazed windows but has two roof vents for ventilation.
Other ventilation comes from opening the cab windows and I have never found it getting too hot, although I use small car silver screens for the windows at night (included) so that the cold can't come in. The van rear window behind the headrests has been removed but I still have it in case you would like to refit it at some point. I found it a big help when removed as you can 'post' things that are in the way through the gap into the cab!
Inside the pod there is an overhead luton for storage or for a small child to sleep. It still has the original mattress. I have only ever used this area for storage, and as there are only two seat belts in the cab and none in the pod, one adult would have to ride in the pod - I understand this is acceptable when a vehicle is over a certain age and never had seat belts in the rear - but check just to be sure!
There is storage inside the mouded front end which contains wheel nut brace and jack, + spare oil/antifreeze which are included in the sale. The spare wheel is also stored up the top end and removed when onsite - and this is in good order.
The two beds are around two foot wide and 5ft 6" long - please be aware of this if you are over 5.5ft tall! Made for midgets! Although there's room in the middle for longer legs if you're keen. LOL! The bed can be made into a wide double by fitting the wooden bracts down the middle. The wooden bit has never been used by myself as I'm ok on a single bed. Will have a go at fitting later and take a photo. There is a table which hooks in and under and has a separate leg for dining and which fits into the middle of the seating.
Beneath the beds are four large storage lockers. The two top lockers are empty. The bottom locker (coming towards the door) on the fridge/cooker side contains the zig unit for the electrics and the gaz bottle/regulator. On the outside of this is also a double plug (2 x 3-pin standard 240v) for when you have electric hookup. The electric hookup lead (EHU) is included and in good nearly new condition.
The cooker is the original one, works well and has 2 burners and a grill underneath (grill pan included).
Beneath the grill is a 2-way fridge (gas/12v) in working order. I have never run the fridge on 12v, preferring to use it as a coolbox with ice packs for the journey. It doesn't use a lot of gas to work, as soon as it's cold you can turn it down and it uses very little. It has piezo ignition. I recently replaced the lunken tube at the rear and had a habitation check for peace of mind. This will not need repacing for 5 years.
The door is ok, with one key (two for the cab) and is a stable door type, you can keep the bottom half shut and the top half open depending on the weather. It has been fitted with rubber seals to stop the draught. It will at some point in the future need replacing, but I have had no problems with it and it does not leak.
On the other side of the door is the little sink, with working 12v water pump and underneath is storage for the drinking water container and waste water container. You can store a lot more in here besides. The containers are both in good order and the drinking/washing water one has been regularly sterilized. They are both included in the sale.
On the left hand side of the door, the bottom storage locker has a good sealed leisure battery (85) and the wiring for the two spotlights and small florescent light, and the sink pump. All in working order. It also works the outside light and that's handy if you have an awning! It has a split charge relay which charges the leisure battery as you drive along.
If you wish to view please email and we can arrange a time.
Can't think of anything else right now, but please email if you need any more information.
Please remember this vehicle is 23 years old, don't come expecting something like new!
All that is required to go away in her are the normal things you would expect to equip a campervan with:
pots, pans, plates & cutlery, sleeping bag, pillows, etc. A 'Luggable Loo' is also recommended and will fit into the cupboard - saves all those night time trips to the toilet block! Also if using EHU, a small travel kettle... 500kw oil radiator if winter camping for those chilly nights!! (there is a clippie light + extension lead for TV's etc included in the sale)
Email for more details & photo's
Hope this Ad isn't too long, Graham!! ;D
