I recently received our Home contents and buildings insurance, we have been with the same company for some considerable time, this year I decided to see if I could get it cheaper, so I tried www.confused.com put in my details and within a few minutes I had several quotes one of which was £135 cheaper than my present quote.
Armed with this information I phoned my current insurance and told them, the young lady on the other end tried to get the quote down for me but couldn't get it anyway near the new price, so she asked if I wanted to be put through to "retentions department" to another young lady who after checking all my details said that because of the length of time we had been insured with the company and the fact that we had never claimed they were willing to write off the £135 and match my new quote.
Morale: Don't accept the renewal always haggle, the bottom line is they don't want to lose your custom so they will usually try to accommodate you.
