We decided to go by train and so arrived at the station in good time and the train was delayed by a fault and so was 20 minutes late. OK, not too bad, but then they announced that it would terminate at Birmingham New St. instead of carrying on to the NEC. Anyway, we eventually made it to the NEC and with some difficulty found where we had to pay. At last we were in and lo and behold on the Romahome stand was the new Dimension. It was actually finished on Sunday and driven up to Birmingham on Monday. Of course we crawled all over it and spent some time talking to other prospective customers about the merits of the vehicle. The only really noticeable difference (apart from the base vehicle) is the washroom, which has been completely re-designed. The toilet has been moved round by 90º (to accommodate larger people, according to Brian Bailey) and the washbasin is now a smaller triangular affair in the corner with nowhere to stand things beside it. The sliding door does indeed slide inside as the toilet doesn’t appear to be on a platform any more. The hatch for the cassette toilet and the water filler for the toilet are now inside the back door. The Dimension is now 4 inches taller and a bit wider and the cab side windows have pleated blinds instead of curtains. No literature was available. We looked round everything else and were nearly on our way out having only bought a £1 bundle of cable ties, when, realising that we had some time to spare until the train, we looked round the Riversway Leisure stand again and ….well, we ended up buying a Cadac Safari Chef. I think that it’s a joint Christmas present.

Hi Wendy Thanks for the report on your day at the show, it sounds if you had a good day, how is the base vehicle different is it still a Relay? And what exactly is a Cadac Safari Chef, I imagine some kind of outdoor cooker/barbeque type thingie, am I right? Graham

The base vehicle is still the Citroen Relay, but it is the new model and it looks very nice. Several makers had vans on the new model Fiat Ducato (same vehicle, different badge).
Cadac make gas barbecues in all sizes and ours is the smallest one. It's legs fold away and it all fits in a neat little bag, so won't take up too much space in the van.

Thanks Wendy, the gas barbecue sounds nice, we love barbies (when the weather is suitable) and we have often been put off going to some campsites in France because they don't allow charcoal barbecues, only gas ones, so one like yours would be a nice addition to our equipment for next summer.

I thought about taking the camera for that reason but the word from the Roma Club magazine was that the New model wasn't ready & wouldn't be there. I'll try & do better next time ;D

You've really whetted our appetite for the show, Wendy, and we look forward to crawling all over the new Dimension as you did. We'll try not to buy too much!

You've really whetted my appetite with talk of that new BBQ - reckon we ought to try it out at the Meet? ;D

Here is a picture of our new toy. You can judge the size from the gas cylinder. If you are all on a diet, perhaps it might be big enough to use at the meet! I think that the pub will be a better option. Obviously the different parts are not light enough to float (before some smart alec suggests it).

It looks great, Wendy. We'd love something like that but where are you going to store it in your Dimension? Is it very heavy? I can't imagine it fitting under the floor ? !! Audrey

Audrey I'm sure they will come up with some impressive storage ideas, they utilise every nook and cranny. We've copied Wendy's idea for bathroom storage using cut down 4 and 6 pint plastic milk bottles (stops everything rolling off the shelves): www.smallmotorhome.co.uk/Resources/bathroomstorageti.pngthere are more storage tips for the Dimension on our website if you haven't seen them already: www.smallmotorhome.co.uk/campinginaromahb.html

Audrey It's not heavy - weighs only 4kg and has it's own carry bag with handles. When packed the whole thing is just slightly larger than the 907 gaz cylinder (33x33x20cms). We've not decided where to store it yet, but it will probably travel in the washroom along with the silver screens and various other things. Makes for an interesting life if you need the loo en route! We've looked at these before and not bought one, so when it's a bargain - you can't refuse. It's a really well made piece of kit and we hope to get a lot of use out of it. It was Riversway Leisure - quite close to one of the entrances at the NEC and they have one open for people to look at and a mountain of them for sale. I shouldn't be singing it's praises too loudly as I've never used it, but Cadacs always seem to have good write-ups.

Thanks for that - it sounds ideal in both size and weight. We too have used the cut down milk bottles in the washroom, thanks for all the tips. Off to Moreton-in-Marsh now and the show tomorrow.

Hello everyone. My first message, but I love this site. Have owned a Dimension since May 2003. We went to the NEC on Friday and to see the new Dimension. The new Citroen looks pretty smart and the 90 degree rotation of the toilet with access behind the offside rear door is very tidy, with othe outside of the van clean cut. The water and electric access have both moved. I can only seem to attach one photo to each message, so I will send a few more photos separately. Mike

Here's a rear offside view. Note the clean cut line without visible toilet access, and the upturned boat on the roof! ;D Mike

And finally a view inside, showing the toilet access and the open washroom (sliding door fully open). The blue lighting is NOT standard, just for the show If anyone can tell me how to put pictures on the message itself, please do, as I have a few more shots you may find of interest. Cheerio for now Mike

The new Dimension does sound nice but I wonder how much the price has increased to cover the new bits and pieces!! re photos - rather than doing them as an attachment try using the 'upload an image' (just below the row of smilieys) you should then be able to add more than one into your post - although you will have to upload each one individually into the post, if that makes sense!!

I've explained how to upload more than one pic in the previous post - hope it helps Hi Pauline Thanks for the help - I'll give it a go. As you suspected, the price is up, to "from £32,790" not including heating and awning. It does include a new 2.2l engine 100 bhp, ABS braking, sat nav! etc etc. but seems fairly reasonable when you look at other makers. Here's the new wash basin and the toilet at the rear - seems more room. I think the towel ring needs repositioning. I love the sliding door - no shower curtain that we could see either (I hate them clinging to me!). A big improvement if it works. Well here goes, hope you can see the pictures. Cheers for now Mike

Enjoyed looking at the photos, looks very smart, just wondered where they have now put the tables? It seems a lot of people found the existing ones quite heavy, a trifle big, and a bit fiddly to get off the rear wall, we have also found this. Also many thanks for the invite to the meet, we are busy on Sat evening, but as we only live about 1 hour away (on wilts, Oxon, Glos border) we may possibly come up for Fri night. If so look forward to meeting some of you there.

Yes we were wondering where the tables were stored now. Re: the meet, it would be great if you could pop over, we might be in the pub in the evening, there is one within walking distance apparently.

Yes we were wondering where the tables were stored now. I saw the tables stored up in the pod, which is slightly higher than the old design, I was informed. Just in case you couldn't open my attachments, I'm putting some clickable pictures on. Mike PS Now I've got the hang of adding pics, I have replaced and added to them so that they are a more useful size for those of us a little visually challenged!

I like the new blinds, they look easier to use than the popper fastner curtains.

Hi Mike
We have an Outlook and bought it earlier this year having sold our Duetto some time ago. As I am the driver now I wanted one that was even smaller and more useful once in our selected location and we decided on one of these. We like the whole range of Romahomes and like to look at all the other small motorhomes whenever we go out. We are going to the London show next month and I will be interested to see the new autosleepers which seems to be an exact replical of the Romahome.
I still get excited when I think of our little van it is money well spent for the pleasure it gives and now that our son has had his first baby and lives on South coast, it is really handy as we can visit in the van and it means we have our own bedroom parked in the back garden!!!!! His house is too small to put us up.
We are off to the meet organised by this site tomorrow in Chipping Norton are you able to make it there? the info is on the General camping discussion Threads it would be nice if you could make it as you seem to be quite near.
I agree this is a nice site, friendly and well managed and glad you have joined us here. Viv

Yes, Pauline, the blinds are much quicker and convenient, and there are two half size ones on the windscreen. Our only concern is whether they will be as warm, especially the ones on the windscreen compared with the silver backed roller blind. Mike
