Hi -- I've just bought a 1995 Romahome, and have no instructions with it. Can anyone help me with a couple of questions about the gas system -- sorry if they've been covered before.
1. The hose running from the cylinder in my gas cubby-hole is black -- and I wouldn't be surprised if it's the original from 1995 (the AA man said the tyres were original). I suppose I should change it? It appears to have no markings on it other than a BS number.
2. Is the regulator the thing that screws on to the top of the gas cylinder, and has the hose coming out of it?
3. There are some controls under the fridge, including a knob that turns to various settings including 1, 2, 3 and a flame icon. There is also what looks like an ignition button. How do I use these to light the fridge? Do they also affect the cooker, or for that do I just turn on the red knob under the sink?
4. The gas cylinder seems to be branded Camping Gaz -- where can I get a new one, or get mine refilled? Can I use Calor Gas instead? It's blue -- does that mean it's butane rather than propane?
I imagine it would be good to get the gas system checked professionally -- does anyone know anywhere near Wimbledon where I can get that done?
I'd be most grateful for any advice. Thanks!

Hi Andrew, I think I can answer No. 2 and 4 and I'm sure someone more specialist will be along soon to answer the rest. 2. Yes, the regulator is the thing that screws on to the top of the gas cylinder, and has the hose coming out of it. 4. You usually just exchange your empty Camping Gaz cylinder for a full one so therefore only pay for the gas, prices we paid recently were around £9 - £12 for an exchange. Most camping accessory shops and some garages do them and also campsites. When we had our C15 we couldn't use Calor gas because even their smallest cylinders won't fit through the locker door. Hope that helps till the experts get here!

Hi Andrew. The answers to questions 1 and 3 are as follows; 1. If the black pipe is original I would get it changed before even trying the gas at all, put an orange high pressure hose on in its place then you can forget it for 5 years. Also while you're getting the gas locker hose changed have the flexible hose under the fridge and behind the cooker checked and or changed. 3. Once you've sorted the gas hoses you can light the fridge by turning the red knob under the sink to the vertical position, then turn the knob under the fridge to position 3, push it in and hold it in while you either switch the ignitor switch on or push the black knob it repeatedly. If you get on your knees, put you backside in the air and look under the fridge at the left rear corner you can see how your lighting efforts are getting on! If you need any more help, give me a ring ( I can talk faster than I can type) Ant ( Avon Motor Caravans 01275 472277 )

Thanks, people! Any idea where is the nearest place to Wimbledon to get this done professionally?

Andrew
I don't know about around Wimbledon but why not have a camping trip out and go to Bristol, camp at the Caravan Club site on Baltic Wharf which is open all year and get the job done by THE professional Ant at Avon Motorcaravans Bristol. He knows all there is to know about Romahomes.
Just a thought.
