Hi All, I have just spoken to my dealer and been told that delivery of my Duo Outlook is delayed due to Citroen changing the engine spec on the berlingo base vehicle. Apparently the 1.9D is now being replaced with a 1.6 version. I have looked on the main Citroen Berlingo website here: www.citroen.com/CWW/en-US/RANGE/PrivateCars/Berlingo/default/MOTORISATION.htmand it looks like the whole model range will have the 1.6HDi engine in either 75bhp or 92bhp, these outputs compare with the older 1.9 and 2.0litre engines. I was told that the new engine is £400 more expensive, no charge to me though as the model was pre-ordered before the spec changed, however Citroen have not delivered on time due to the change. There was apparently an announcement made by Citroen at the recent show. Prior to this Romahome had no idea of the changeover. Anyone know anymore about the engine changes? Tim

Anyone know anymore about the engine changes? Tim Hi Tim That came as a surprise. Should have seen it coming. The new Multispace tech data pdf file on www.citroen.co.uk/level4/technicalSpecification.asp?pagetype=multispace was put out in June but the van data on www.citroen.co.uk is still showing the 1.9 and 2L HDI engines. I expect you have already found the new engine data but I thought you may not have the 1.9 and 2L HDI info so I have scanned that in. Berlingo Multispace Technical Info Feb 2005 This is from the pdf file on the Citroen site Berlingo Multispace Technical Info June 2006 Performance and economy are up on both. Derek

Hi Tim. The new engines are the European E4 class engine , this means it is a lean burn light wt engine that is better for the environment and ultimately better for your pocket. It's true we learnt at the NEC last week that the old 1.9 and 2.0 were to be stopped, worse still any of the old engines that were built before Sept 06 by Citroen must be registered by the new year and any built after Sept 06 must be registered by Sept 07. As a dealer this makes order planning a nightmare as we have to think of the time it takes Romahome to biuld there bit. Many orders have been delayed so the customer gets the latest engine. Citroen are not the easiest company to deal with as they regard the numbers of Berlingos used for Motorhomes as pretty small in the whole scheme of things and therefore don't always keep there dealers ( Motorhome) informed. Romahome , I can tell you are livid!! Ant

Hi Derek and Ant,
Thanks very much for all the information. At least the 1.6 engine compares more than favourably with the 1.9 I had specified in the order. I did hear from my dealer that Romahome were more than a bit surprised about the unannounced change and that it is Citroen that is delaying my van. I can imagine they were none too impressed at not being told sooner, after all customers with orders in, like me, are not all going to be as accepting about the delay.
Oh well, just means that I am not going to be able to get a weekend away to test it out before going away for Christmas!!

Hi Pauline,
No definite date as yet, all depends on Citroen sorting out the delivery. Mind you the MD at Romahome told my dealer that the base vehicle should be in late this week/early next and the conversion would take 2 weeks so that makes it the last week of November....ish!!

Well the saga continues....
Apparently Citroen still have yet to despatch the base vehicle to Romahome, possibly the end of November....if they get around to it!!
It takes 2 weeks for the vehicle to get to Romahome and a couple of weeks for the conversion work.
I'm now being told to expect the van around the middle of January???!
I've had to cancel the holiday week we had booked at Teversal over Christmas, I sold my car three weeks ago prior to the expected new delivery date so am now without a car and generally now pretty fed up with the whole situation.
I am going to write to the MD of Romahome and complain about the fact that I was promised that if I got my order in quickly in July I could get one of the last 2 vehicles on the October delivery.........what delivery!
If I do get the van before the Spring meet I'll endevour to make it there, if not I'm sure you'll all understand why I'm absent....sob....sob!

Oh dear, Tim, that is so unfair Is it worth looking for a good second hand one? I know that is not what you really wanted, but at least you would have a van and could see what you are getting. We will be keeping everthing crossed that you do get sorted out and can make the spring meet.

Sorry to hear about that Tim, it seems forever when you are waiting doesn't it? At least when you finally get it there should be some good weather coming up. We got our Dimension late in the year and it seemed ages until spring when we could use it properly.
I am sure the wait will be worth while but in the mean time it is worth complaining to the MD you never know you might get some knocked off for your inconvenience if you tell them that you have sold your car, had to cancel your trip to Teversal etc, lay it on really thick, I would.

So sorry to hear you are going to have to wait even longer for your new van Tim. I hope you get somewhere with your complaint to the MD. Do you have the right to cancel your order because they have kept you waiting so long? I think you are being very patient especially when you have sold your car as well.

You must be really fed up Tim! Do you mind me asking which dealer you are dealing with? I just wondered if they might be prepared to lend you a vehicle to use while you are waiting if they also sell cars etc. You know, like a courtesy car? You really should be compensated for having the cancelled holiday and disappointment.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the messages. I want to wait for the new vehicle I ordered as that's what I want, but I am pretty fed up at the moment.
It is just the latest of things that have made me wonder about Romahome, after the queries about gas bottles I made to the factory and their total inability to answer the question. now the repeated delay!
I ordered the unit through Greentrees, because they are nearest to me out of the dealer list. They have been helpful as far as they can but what can they do if they cant get the unit.
Have drafted the letter to the MD so will let you know the outcome.

Good News!!
Brian, the MD, at Romahome has given my vehicle some special attention, has been in contact with me, and the vehicle is now well on its way to being completed. My dealer called today and said that it may even be here next Friday, just in time for Christmas but unfortunately still too late for the week away that has been cancelled. Never mind there's many more weeks out there yet...
Assuming all goes to plan and the vehicle is as it should be on delivery I'm a happy roma again and many thanks to Brian for working this out.

That is great news Tim, what a nice Christmas present that will be for you. I'm sure when you get your van and start 'Roming' again it will all have been worth the trouble and the wait.
Roll on spring.

Hi Pauline,
I went to the dealer yesterday and saw the van. Everything is as it should be, and it is really nice to know it is in the county now too!!
Seems a lot bigger than the one I test drove, but then that was some time ago now....
My dealer has the PDI checks and clean up to do so I should have the van either first or second week in January - Christmas hols being what they are - not complaining as I am off so why shouldn't their guys be too.
Merry Christmas to everyone and hope that you all have a good festive season
Tim

Happy New Year to everyone ) I have had a call from my dealer today and we have agreed a date of the 17th for me to take delivery of the van. It's a bit later than intended but allows for me getting my insurance company sorted....they are having a bit of trouble working out what a Romahome is!!!! It also fits in quite nicely with my work commitments so I can take a week off to 'play' with my new toy and do the rounds of all the friends and relations who have booked it for a 'come show me' visit!!! Will hold off booking the Devizes site till the van arrives...history being what it has been with missed dates....but I'm sure that a couple of weeks delay booking will not make too much difference. Well guys its here, and everything is great. Looking forward to being able to get away in it now!!
The new 1.6 HDi engine is brilliant, definitely doesn't hang around, it's nice to know that the power is there if you need it too.

Hi Tim
Great news about the van, you have been so patient but I bet its worth the wait, it will be interesting to know how the 1.6 engine does regarding miles per gallon. With the Duo we got around 45-50 mpg which we though was pretty good'

I am interested to know what Road Tax bracket this van falls into, is it light goods or based on CO2 emissions?
thanks, Margaret

Hi Margaret. All Motorhomes are taxed as either PLG or LGV. PLG ( Private Lifgt Goods) for older vans at £180, LGV ( Light Goods Vehicle) for newer vans at £175. Commercial vehicles are not required to give the C02 g/km values as yet. So far the Euro 4 Light goods bracket doesn't seem to work with motorhomes( pity as it is only £115). Ant

The only new Relay Dimension I've registered so far was done as a light goods at £175 as the V55 ( first registration document) does not list the emissions therefore the vehicle cannot be registered on the strength of its C02 rating ( 193g/km for the Relay). I'm sure in time the system will change and they will include the Euro 4 commercials in the lower emission band for taxing but for now it remains at LGV. Ant
