Since the original thread is now a bit clogged with messages about mechanical aids for poor old Yamaha, I thought that I should start a new one. Since I have got you all into thinking about coming to this proposed event I thought that I should lead from the front and put my money where my mouth (post) was and book our pitch before you lot fill the place up ;D We have booked for the two nights of Friday & Saturday 30 & 31 March. Those of you who are not members can book directly with the site on 01380 828839. It might be worth investigating membership before you book as it will save you money & you will belong ready for any future meet that we might have After Christmas I will contact the site & try to arrange that we are sited as a group

Is that the weekend the clocks change ? If so that is a good cause to celebrate. Will have to look at date as it may just be Saturday for us, early morning set off and arrival at 12.01pm due to the C&CC early arrival supplement (well perhaps others may call it something differnt. So thats looks like 3 vans so far.

Hi Derek,
Took a look at the link and would really like to visit the locks, assuming the van has turned up by the time of the spring meet that is!! lol

Thanks for the link Derek, certainly shows that motorhoming is much easier than canal boating!!

I have taken the details and will be booking in tomorrow for 30th and 31st March, it is so nice to be so near good food and the canal and the lock flight is a bonus.
I have lost the plot with the November one and am going to refresh my memory in a minute.

Well done Viv! At least I hope you are following through with this today. We now need a few other people to follow your example. Perhaps as a new year resolution if they are too busy at the moment? You are not the only one who has lost the plot on the possible Bridgwater meet in November. I'm not sure where we are with this. I know that it's still a long way off but perhaps we should ask our man on the spot for an update, although he might be a bit busy at the moment flying awnings or caught up in a tangle of Bongo wiring? Best Wishes

John said "You are not the only one who has lost the plot on the possible Bridgwater meet in November."
Well, the update really is - no update!!
I left it that I would give him numbers and deposits by the end of July - it does seem early, but bear in mind it's a popular Event, and it's a very convenient little site - more like a CL really, but adaquate I'm sure for our needs - 'cause we're HARD - hopefully!!
So, put the date in your Events diary - I'll chase you all up nearer the summer.

That sounds good, Mike. Perhaps we could give you deposits when we see you in Devizes 'cos we don't want to miss out.

Hi All Have had no time earlier today to book, so just phoned the site direct and spoke to a most helpful site manager, Elaine who, when I told here that there may be a small group, advised that we choose a contact name now for the group and quote that when booking. She said that then she would ensure we are booked in a group (if anyone does not want to be in a group then they need give the group name.) She said this was preferable to booking individually now and then letting her know about a group arrangement. I did not make my booking as I did not want to look as if I was ignoring her very well meaning advice.
She did say though that she had only had one motorhome booking so far, don't know who it was but I don't want to book yet if no one else from here is going. She said there were loads of spaces so I'm not sure whether I should book now or wait until early new year as the deposit is £25 regardless.
she also said that are open for bookings between 9 - 10.30 each mornign or just leave a message on the answer phone and she would get back.
What do you think about a name for us any suggestions?
Viv

Hi Viv
If she wants a name for the group then I suppose it should the Smallmotorhome Group. The motorhome that has already booked will be John and Wendy.
Don't worry about being on your own, as I say John and Wendy have booked and Pauline and I are definitely going we just haven't booked yet. Lots of other people have expressed an interest so I think we will have a few going.

Thanks Graham,
Actually I have now read the thread properly. I was getting a bit anxious that you had all changed your minds and Terry and I were going to be on our own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, I am going to book tomorrow and will use the Smallmotorhome group as the contact name. Night night!

Yes, we are the early bird bookers ;D ;D I will phone the site tomorrow and advise the lady that we are already booked and are the first of the Small motorhome group, and to expect to be inundated (well a few anyway) early in the New Year with more bookings from us. If anyone else books online like we did then it is probably necessary also to phone the site and advise them of your small motorhome connections.

I have now spoken to the site and warned them of the approach of the Small motorhome group so you can now all flood in your bookings when you are ready. ;D

I am booked I did it by phone to the C & CC as I keep missing opening time at the site. Anyway they put a note in the 'special requests' section on their booking form about the small motorhome group and she said the site manager will see this when booking is e mailed through to her. I'm excited now.

We are now booked in! A bit of a warning though - there are no grass pitches with or without electric left for the Friday night. Only hardstandings with electric are currently available for that day. I think that the site only has limited hardstanding pitches too so if you are coming I would recommend booking asap.

Not sure if we will be able to use the awning but if I remember rightly the hard standing pitches have grass all around and at rear so may be able to have a go as the awning is quite small. We'll see.

I think that they don't use the grass pitches during the winter as I can't believe that all the grass pitches are occupied during the whole of March (yes, I did check lots of different dates!). But, as Pauline says, maybe best to book as soon as you can.

But, as Pauline says, maybe best to book as soon as you can. We were there a couple of years ago in March and the site was water logged. They were really struggling to accommodate all the arrivals and were putting motorhomes and caravans on the little roadways but of course that blocked the road then, so there could only be one van per road (hope that makes sense) We were given the assistant wardens pitch as they were not due to arrive until after we had left! Luckily no-one came to us needing help in the middle of the night!

We'll see. You should be alright Viv as it is a Camping and Caravanning Club site but woe betide anyone who tries to pitch an awning on the grass area around a Caravan Club pitch!! They made us move our rear awning off the grass when we were at a site with our Duo.

Oh dear, I will remember that and avoid the caravan club. Last thing I want to do is be told off, I gave up work so I could do as I like!!!!! However if it is very wet I will understand if awnings are a no go on this site as well! I think I can manage with or without.

However if it is very wet I will understand if awnings are a no go on this site as well! I think I can manage with or without. Hi Viv, We have got the Movelite awning and were worried about that problem but have managed ok. Most places we have been to we can get the van and the awning on the hardstanding and peg out into the grass either side, or if needs be into the hardstanding. Make sure you use rock pegs and you should be ok. We went to Rowntree in York which is a Caravan Club site and were a bit worried about it but no problem. We always check with the warden first if we think there is any doubt about it. If you have the front wheels as near to the front of the hardstanding as you can the awning normally fits on the back ok. Sometimes it has been a tight squeeze but thats the beauty of the Movelite as you can then decide which side you use for access. Hope this makes sense as not that good at explaining things.

Moya this sounds like all will be fine. Can you set up the awning single handed or does it require two of you??

Moya this sounds like all will be fine. Can you set up the awning single handed or does it require two of you?? I think you might struggle a bit on your own especially if it is a bit windy. We normally put the poles through together and I hang on to it while Roger gets the first pegs in. Then I leave him to do all the hard work!
