Hi there chaps Anybody got any thoughts on the Nu Venture currently listed on ebay? It looks gorgeous but I'm not sure whether I'm just in love with its cuteness! I'm aware that it was on ebay from a different seller last week, but that doesn't mean to say that its a dodgy vehicle does it? - I think a that a dealer bought it knowing it was worth more than it was going for - I'm thinking of going to see it at the weekend - any ideas on value or am I losing it and should just forget it as we really cant afford it?! cheers mr & mrs lazaru

Is it this one? HEREThey describe it as a Romahome but it isn't made by Romahome, Nu Venture is a different company, not sure whether that makes any difference, I don't think we have any Nu Venture owners on here to give you advice about them, having said that it looks nice, I suppose all you can do is go and have a look and see what you think when you see it. Good luck Graham

Looks nice enough, just a few words of warning however, Nu venture used to build on cut down vans which in itself is not a problem provided they used the 765Kg van. Many of these early ones were put on the 600Kg chassis and were simply over bodied. A chassis with 110000 will be in need of suspension soon if its not already had it. You can easily check the chassis wt by looking at the chassis number, if it has the letters PB in it its a 600Kg if it has PP in it its a 765Kg chassis. Lastly ask for a new MOT, 4 months leaves you stranded in the middle of summer without a camper if theres a problem getting another MOT when its due. Ant

My goodness thanks for the all the info – it’s a minefield! I was also unaware that it wasn’t a Roma and assumed that it was a special edition like the Quartet. On the minus side too, it actually looks quite a lot larger than the roma’s from that period and I’m used to driving a Peugeot 205! When I do finally get a Roma it will be my only vehicle so has to be manageable on a day-to-day basis and relatively economical – that was what attracted me to roma’s in the first place, I guess I got sidetracked and overwhelmed by the plush interior of the nu venture ……….can you see that I’m talking myself out of this one?! Again thanks for all your help – I think I’ll just keep looking for the time being. Will be in touch, no doubt, when I find the next too good to be true deal! Cheers Gill

That's what is so brilliant about this site, Mamalazarou. You aren't alone with all your questions when buying a motorhome. We all like to have a look and you get lots of good, impartial advice. Although I am very happy with Elvis, I bet I would not have paid as much as I did if I'd had Ant and Dancer to tell me what was what. Good luck anyway. It certainly LOOKS impressive ( and thanks for the link, Graham. I'd already looked on eBay and couldn't find it! Duurrr!). Jax

They build Nu Ventures near me and I have been to have a look a few times at the Berlingo Surf. we went once in our Multispace and they said that they could convert that to a Surf. That would have meant cutting the shell and uprating the suspension. We decided eventually to stick with Romahome because we felt that the Nu Ventures were overbodied. When we had a C15 we fitted spring assisters and when we bought our Outlook last year it came with spring assisters fitted. we went to the caravan Show at the NEC last October and there was a Nu Venture Surf on a stand and I aske what had been done to uprate the suspension. The only reply I could get was that it was within tthe manufacturers tolerences. They could not give me any idea of payload.
My concern would be that in standard trim there would be no wieght allowance for anything other trhan driver and passenger.
Incidentally the one on ebay may well be called a Venture because the company used to be called Venture motorhomes but due to internal politics the company became 2 - Nu Venture Motorhomes and Nu Venture Campers. They are not the same company. Campers only build van conversions. Ask if you need any more information.

many thanks again to all - what a fount of knowledge this forum is. After due consideration, I am almost definitely going to give this one a miss and concentrate on Romas. I think I may have missed the boat for bargains though - it's got to be completely the wrong time of year to be buying, what with Easter just around the corner. Maybe I'm better to go with the full service history, 12month MOT, Trade option - or maybe I'll just wait 'til September to buy and snatch a bargain on ebay then! Do trade prices alter with the seasons?! thanks again Gill

Hi, some thoughts on this vehicle.
The seller displays a link to a 51 page photo album of the 'van.
Photo 9, the speedometer instrument glazing and trip mileage return knob appear to have led very hard lives for a 47,000 mile campervan.
Photo 28, the fresh water tank is unsecured, damaged beyond repair, uncapped and insanitary. The external fresh water filler pipe is unconnected. Evidence of established water damage to the lid and sides of the water tank storage compartment, notably the green (mould?) tinge visible.
Photo 29, the leisure battery is unsecured, has corroded terminal clamps and has a cut, bare electric cable resting on the top surface. Photo 31, evidence of established water damage at floor and wall joint in 'loo compartment. Poor quality repair to floor in adjacent area.
Photo 32, unsafe gas bottle storage and retention. Gas bottle stored horizontally in an unsealed to interior compartment. No external vent visible in gas compartment.
Photo 33, consumer unit electric cable retained by 2 self tapping screws and a cable tie. Dirt visible on consumer unit.
Page 48, evidence of what appears to be mastic visible at nearside and rear wall joint (to the left of 'Venture').
The glowing, 100% positive feedback from the previous buyer of this 'van appears wholly contradictory to the fact that the original seller is re-advertising it for sale!
The anticipation and expectation experienced when contemplating a Romahome (or similar) can reduce the capacity for reasoned objectivity, a sort of 'love at first sight' (in a micro-camper kind of way!).
The thought of losing out on what may appear to be the 'ideal campervan' makes one especially vulnerable.
Like I said, just some thoughts!
