Hello Everyone I have recently purchased a rather old (C reg) but soon to be much loved demountable Romahome / acty (called Hector). As you would imagine the instructions for the Romahome are no where to be seen - so I have a question I was hoping you could help me with. Currently to make up the bed I have been supplied with 2 bits of very large Formica and 2 long bits of skirting board - this I carn't believe is correct as there seems to be slots that rails should be fitted into in the fibre glass base. Can anybody please advise how this really should be done - or even send me a set of instructions to mail@lizameyrick.freeserve.co.uk - romahome have advised I can have a new set of parts for £50+ or a set of instructions for £16??!! - but for some reason I seem to think you need the table which I don't have - I'v had to make my own up which is slightly bigger than the original..... Any information you could supply would be most helpful as currently every time we put the breaks on half a tonne of wood falls off the luton onto my Jack Russell's head??!! Thanks in Advance Liza

Hi Liza Welcome to the forum, I'm not totally sure on Acty's but if you click on this link HERE and scroll down it will take you to our main website and Pauline has put some picture of the bed layout for a Duo which I am sure will basically the same. The settee back rest and the seat cushions should be used with 3 pieces of wood going across ways fitting into the notches in the fibreglass to support the bed which when made up will be a large double or of course you could have two single and not use the middle supports. Hope that helps. Graham

Hi Liza,
It sounds as though the original parts have been lost in time!! I agree with Graham, the double bed is supported by blocks of wood that slot into the grooves in the fibreglass. Ours only has 2 though. The settee cushions and back rests sit on top of that to make the bed.
In ours the table isn't needed to make the bed up, not certain that this is the case with all vans though, new to this ourselves!
I can send you photo's if that will make it clearer!!!
OH, welcome to the forum too ;D

Hello again.. and thank you for the warm welcome.. If possible pics would be great thanks... please send to mail@lizameyrick.freeserve.co.uk. At least from there I can decide to either splash the cash and buy the romahome replacement parts - or the more likely option to get out my workmate - scavange soom wood and sort it out myself.... Still looking for a romahome manual if anyone has one please Lots of jobs to do on Hector - need to learn how to install an electric hook up and upolster etc.. but should be fun. Liza

Hi Liza
I tried to email you a copy of my manual but it was returned. Not to worry. Graham has suggested I email to him and he will put it on the site so that anyone can download themselves.
It should be available over the next few days.

Some helpful suggestions on this thread: smallmotorhome.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=romahomes&action=display&thread=1889£16 just for the instruction sheet! Regarding the wood falling off the luton when you stop - take off the pretty little plastic pelmit (I hope there is one!) and turn it upside down and screw it back on again - then you have a 'lip' which stops things sliding off. I also did the same with the side pelmets and now have a couple of useful little shelves for bits and pieces. It doesn't look as pretty, but it's a lot more useful that way! ;D

Lots of jobs to do on Hector - need to learn how to install an electric hook up and upolster etc.. but should be fun. Liza Found a site which may come in useful for you - jon3m.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ chap who built his own campervan. Somewhere on the net you should be able to find instructions as to how to set up wire in an EHU. I don't think I'd take any chances on this though, I'd get someone to install for me. Another way around this is to buy a 'camping tent' type Ehu. Now, I'm not sure if it's allowed to be used with a camper van on camping sites, but I can't see why not as most tents these days have them. It's basically an extension lead with two/four three-pin sockets at one end, and an EHU connection at the other end. This would provide basic ehu at a low price. The only prob you'd have is how to get the plug end into your campy. Like I said, I'm not sure if it's allowed running into a campervan or if you can only use these with a tent? Anyone else know?

shouldnt see any problem with using it inside your van. do you have an outside locket Jay Jay? if so, you can drill into from inside your van, Martinw did, and I have now, after seeing his set up.
Not good at explaining, but I am sure that Martin will come along and explain, possibly with piccy's

Hi - I've got an Ehu socket - it's a bit old but works fine. I don't have an outside locker though! It's Scooter (Liza) who needs some help on this one! So two of you have the Camping tent style EHU connected up? I wondered if it was possible! ;D I'd love to see some pics of how this works. And how it would be possible without an outside locker. I don't think Liza will have one as her romahome is (I think) on a Honda Acty, so it's a different shell and layout, similar to mine. So where could the Ehu come in? My EHU is actually underneath the shell abutting to the panel sides, so out of the weather, so as long as she could gain entry from outside of there to inside a locker, would that would work? Don'f forget to buy a long one Liza. I was going to go for a shorter length b/c of space and weight, but I couldn't find a small one and ended up with a 25 meter one. I though this was way too long, but at Wolverley the EHU hook up points were quite a distance away, so I'm glad I bought the longer one in the end, even if it does take up more space!

No Martin and I dont use the tent style ehu, as we have electric 240v sockets already in the van, we both just added more, we have a double socket at the side of the cooker, then used a house extention lead, placing the socket end in the outside locker and drilling though, it is then plugged in the double socket at the side of the cooker.
Sorry, I thought it was yourself Jay Jay as you are so busy with all these projects, I used to do for myself, but I have now decided to let others do for me. (sons come to mind) and I do the cooking, washing, ironing and cleaning in their homes, fair exchange I am thinking. Well this is my last reply from the uk, puter being switched off, next time it will be from Turunc, Turkey!!!!!
Good Luck with projects and have brilliant times travelllingxxxxxx

Hi everyone..again...
Thanks for all your info and replies...
I now have a plan 2 make myself some wooden bed bits at the weekend... at a look around a new outlook at the weekend at the motorhome show in Peterborough... and have decied that £32 of Romahome is ridiculas for what seems to be no more that some nicly varnished bit of 2 x 4??!!
re the electrics.. my plan was.. and I am slowly collecting the bits .. to purchase a camping EHU.... complete with RCD... split the cable... drill a hole in the base of my demountable.. push wire through and wire up to a power inlet b4 screwing said unit onto demountable (using the required amount of sealent to ensure no leaks).... I am now left with a long bit of wire that with the addition of a connector will turn into an electric hook up wire.... Thought that would do the job.... without 2 much work...
I have now also purchased some bungieee netting to stop things falling off my luton...
Off camping to a rugby tournamant at the weekend.. just hope its a lot warmer that the easter trip we had in the snow.... so... so .. cold....

Hi - I'm glad you're getting it all sorted! I hope the weekend away goes well. It's still cold at night though.. if no EHU by then, take some hot water bottles! And a woolly hat! Edited to add: I've found a site which sells all the necessaries for EHU and the prices look good. www.rainbowconversions.co.uk/Equipment/Electrical/electrical.htm

Hey there, I have a Honda 550 Demountable too!!! If you need any help or advice on these amazing campers i can try to assist! With regards to the bed, it should have two pieces of wood. Both sit in between the two benches in the slots provided. The wider piece goes in the middle of the bench and the narrow piece goes nearer the door end of the bench. Then the two bench seats are placed next to each other in the middle, and the back rests slot down in the edges at the far sides of the van. That should make up a rather large double bed! With regards to the Electric unit, i havent yet done this, but i am going to get a Voltage sensing relay fitted to my camper. This simply gets connected to the cab battery, located underneath the van at the right side just infront of the rear axel. From here you simply connect the device to the positive terminal of the battery and run it up through the romahome (there usually is a little vent located just above the battery put there to vent the gas bottle i think). Then you simply connect the other end to the positive terminal of the leisure battery and bobs your uncle. All the device does is detect when the cab battery is fully charged, then transfer the charge to the leisure battery. Good for keeping it topped up whilst on the move. Anyway I hope my rabble might some help? lol Phil
