I am new to diesels and camper vans. I am now the proud owner of a old stile hi-lo. hence i do not know what to expect from the performance. I get the impression from reading various descriptions that my van may be a bit sluggish. she accelerates quite slowly in 4th & 5 th gear even with the accelerator hard against the floor. Once there she will cruise happily at 60 mph but speed drops of at any incline, and the gears get well used. With the accelerator peddle hard down the leaver on the injector thingy is hard against a wired stop. a couple of times with the accelerator hard down she seemed to accelerate faster as if she had more power all of a sudden. is this a typical performance for the C15. could she need a service or something on the engine tweaked.
I am very happy with the van and feel she would not let me down. cant wait for the firs rt sleep over.
How does your your performance compare, have you any suggestions.
i am wondering about those hilly winding country roads.

Hi John. It sounds as if your C15 is in need of a good service, the fuel has a sulphur content which can deposit on the injectors thus reducing the quality of the spray. Does it sound a bit lumpy on tick over? If so, I would get the fuel filter changed and while doing so prime the new filter with a diesel treatment and with a quarter full fuel tank put another dose of treatment in the tank. Take it out and drive it hard ( forget 4th and 5th, you should get 60mph in 3rd) don't be alarmed at the trail of smoke and soot, it should run better and smoother afterwards, ( don't do this on an unknown age of timing belt). I well run in C15 should happily spend its day at 80mph if you so wish! Ant

HI ANT
Thanks for your quick reply. I was very encouraged by it. not being familiar with removing and replacing the filter plus getting the fuel round and vented i will probably get it checked by a more competent person than myself. when i brought it the seller said the belt had been changed. I have noticed that the cylinder head is quite clean and silver. I was wondering if the belt had broken and the head and valves needed replacing. the injectors are rusty looking (not new). suggesting that the originals were replaced during the change over. thanks again ant
p.s. i have sent off for the hayse manual so that i will know what i am looking at if not how to fix it.
