Not really, you need a drive away awning, that is held onto the roof of your van by a flap and tied down at the sides, you need to look at Movelite or Harrison awning, you dont have the rail for the one you are looking at

Movelite has the advantage of having a bed pod, useful when you others with you. flexible poles, lightweight. I actually have both awnings, Harrison which Romingtim have is alum poles and apex roof, fairly easy to put it, One for sale on Roma club site

One of these: a movelite driveaway awning. This is the standard version, the XL is too big and meant for the coach built MH's. A pic of my van and awning at Ullapool, where we stayed overnight waiting for the ferry to the Western Isles! Like Lunnie says, it attaches over the back door with a 'hoodie' type sttachment, which is elasticated and works pretty well. I trap the top of mine in the back skylight and that helps to position it correctly over the back. (You have to remember to release it before you drive away - LOL!)

I agree my movelite is brill fits like a dream, put up in 10 mins, pegged down takes longer - even has a ring to hang a lite in the middle, doors on all sides, the front door can be put up as a sun canopy..... tried to insert image and cannot do it.

We have the Harrison awning, sometimes find it a bit of a chore to put up (depending how far we've travelled!) Is the Movelite easier to pop up, and is it about the same size when up and also packed?

Movelite is lighter when packed up, I have difficulty with the ring and peg, no strength at times in my hands. But I can do the Harrison myself takes longer, if on a long holiday I use the Harriison, as you have rail with which to hang wet clothes, plus bags of food of the ground. Courses for horses.

Thanks!
Will probably stick to the Harrison and buy a small tent for storage on shorter trips! On a good day we can be sitting with cup of tea within half an hour, awning up! (there's always that dilemma, tea first or awning first! Whatever you do you wished you'd done the opposite!)

Not sure if it will help but if you just want a standalone shelter that is quick to put up instead of an awning what about the Quechua base seconds? It is designed to partner their 2 second tents but can be used on its own and goes up in seconds. This link takes you to a page that shows the smaller tents and the shelter that can attach to it. seconds.quechua.com

Thanks for that! Looks good, but maybe a bit big for our needs. (think the taking it down could become a 'you've been framed' item!) Think a small tent may be the answer for those 2 nights away storage needs! Will stick with the Harrison for longer trips!

Actually asked this question in the uk campsite forum and it seems the answer is go and buy it in the shop and practice before you part with your cash. It is knack once you understand it is fine. I had a pop up tent for the kids and it is actually easy to put away once you get the idea. People who just tried to follow the instructions did have a steep learning curve!

Hi I've just bought a 2005 Dimension and want to get an awning - I read on the earlier posts that the Movelite XL is too big. Is there any way it will fit at all? I fancied the extra floor space of the XL. I have to be able to put it up myself (and I'm vertically challenged!).

Hi
Picked up my C15 Hytop late last night. Just about to venture out to find a local Gas supplier that does the smaller cylinders, but have also been looking at a small awning as a storage annex. One of the things that occurred to me, with the drive-away type, fixed to a back door, when you drive back to them, isn't there any problem with burning the fabric of the awning on the exhaust, or is there a 'trick' I'm missing???

Doesnt the exhaust come out at the side? No problem with backing up to the awning, no trick, nothing gets burnt or damaged.

Like Rhianon1 I have been looking at awnings to fit a Dimension, (Yes, I do have a coachbuilt at the moment but we are going down to one vehicle and it likely to be a Dimension). We looked at both the Movelite and the Khyam and decided that the 6 extra guy lines on the Khyam would probably suit our magnetic attraction to strong winds. The store is one we have used for many years and the guy demonstrated how the external frame clicks into position, very impressive. Their web site has a video of how it goes up. They have four models for motorhomes and we think the smallest on will be ideal for a Dimension. But it is more expensive than the Movelite Incidently, they also supply a fitting for people who do not want to fix a rail on their van or their wind out awning, it uses the ropes over the top idea but with a number of fixing points, it is a universal fitting for the figure of 8 connection. Bit late for Graham & Doug but might be useful to others. Khyam is at: www.khyam.co.uk/product_tent.asp?category=Khyam%20QE&type=Caravan/MotorcaravanColin

By the way, ignore Khyam web prices, the stores sell them for about £75 less.

Use Delta pegs then it wont matter about the storms and gales, it will always hold fast.

Thanks for the info about the Khyam, Colin. It looks good. I'm hoping to see some of these and the Movelites on display at the NEC in October. I may be able to make a decision by then!
