Hi everyone. We have just returned from 3 weeks touring the Lake District, Northumberland and the lowlands of Scotland and I have just picked up this thread. I thought when I retired I was finished with plumbing but apparently not.
T o answer steves original enquiry - when we bought our c15 hy lo it had a small elsan unit similar to the 235 but we didn't think much of it. we have used a 365 porta potti for ages on the boat but I have always found them a bit awkward to empty through the little pipe. looked around and found the Fiamma Bi Pot 30 on the leisure shop direct web site. It fits in the side locker easily in the hi lo and is so so easy to empty and it cannot get blocked because of the design. It is in my opinion stonger than the pp and also cheaper. I was so imoressed that we bough a nbigger one BP 39 for the boat.
Back to the van. We decided to keep the loo out of the locker this trip(extra storage for clothes being away for 3 weeks). we kept it behind the cab seats inbetween the side lockers with a cover over it and secured with a bungee to stop it sliding around. for night time use it was slid to the other end of the van ready for use. It worked well for the two of us.
Next showering. When on sites we would use the site showers , when off site a simple head to toe strip wash was found to be adequate.
As we were using the van on a daily basis touring around we couldn't be bothered to keep turning the gas on to make a cuppa. Instead we would fill a couple of thermos flasks after breakfast and they were ready when we wanted a drink. Also did the same at night so that when we awoke the thermos water was returned to the kettle and quickly heated ready to use. If it was for washing it was hot enough out of the flask.
Hope that gives food for thought.
Oh yes, we had a great holiday.
Malcolm.
