Hi Everyone
I have been thinking of buying a one ring electric hob to use when I am on hook up. When the remoska played up when I was away recently I could have saved on the gas if I had one of these on board. Has anyone used one and do they cause a problem with total amps?
Lizzie.

I have one that I bought in France - it's 1kw and works very well. I use it when we have EHU and manage quite well with just the one heat source. I don't want to use gas when we are paying for electricity. ;D Just seen this. Looks good and low wattage so shouldn't trip the electric.

I use a 2Kw one that I got for £4.99 from a website called half-cost. They have all sorts of offers - ex-catalogue stuff I think. I don't use it if the EHU is only 6 amp, but it's fine on 10 or 16. www.half-cost.co.ukI was thinking of getting one of the ones like in your link, but the price was putting me off, was thinking would have to save a lot of gas to pay for it! I've seen the 1 Kw ones in caravan dealers for £17.99.

Sorry that link doesn't work but if you type half-cost into Google it comes up. They haven't got any at the moment anyway, but they do have lots of other bargains!

I have got a tristar 750w ring, the same as the one in Wendy's link. It takes a long time to heat up, and to cool down, we use it instead of the gas. I would recommend one.

We did think about getting one but can't really see how it will save that much money. At £19.99 for one ring it will take a long time to pay for itself. We don't have electric hook up in summer if we can help it and have just had to get a refill for our gas which cost us £12 and it took 10 months to empty. Bearing in mind we use gas to heat water, cook in the oven of our Dimension, use the fridge and 4 gas rings I think that is pretty good going. To us it seems that it will be just something else to find a space in the van to carry it and when space is at a premium its difficult. Just think of all the beer I could put in that space. ;D I'm not a mathematician but the cost doesn't seem justifiable, or am I missing something. Graham

If we are paying for electricity (especially if it is included: ie some CC & CL sites), I don't want to use my gas! Look after the pennies etc.... As Alan said it does take a while to heat up and cool down, but hey you are on holiday, so relax and chill out!

Hi Wendy I do understand what you mean about having to pay for electric when you don't really want it, that really annoys me but are you "cutting off your nose to spite your face" as my mum used to say. ;D My point is, is it false economy to pay out nearly 20 quid on something that will take ages to pay for itself, if at all, to save using one gas ring. Just my opinion.

That's why I never bought one at caravan dealer prices, but when I saw mine at £4.99 I decided it was worth it - I actually bought two, thinking they were 1 Kw, but when I got them and saw they were 2Kw, I knew I wouldn't be using both so I put one on E-bay - it went for £5, so it could be worth a look on there.
I've been using mine now since I got it last December, it's been used quite a lot, once or twice most weekends. My electric frying pan packed up 5 weeks ago, so instead of buying a new one at £35+, I've started using a large pan on the leccy hob instead. I reckon it will soon have paid for itself.

I didn't pay £20 for mine (can't remember how much) - it was from Auchan nr Boulogne about 4/5 years ago & in the days when the exchange rate was much better! Do whatever suits you and if I am honest, I would rather use the gas, but as said before if we've paid for the electricity then I will use it. I am sure that we don't get our moneysworth with EHU as we are quite frugal in our use.
