I started to look at all the notes on awnings last night but thought I'd start afresh.
I've got a brand new ie 2009 version of a Movelite awning for my HyLo. I've just put it up in the garden - with great difficult - particially 'cos it was raining and partially because I had no idea how to do it. An internet search revealed some instructions (let me know if you want the link).
However, they forgot to mention 2 important things: the impact of the new square tapes at the base of the awning, which I assume are to help with squaring off the awning as you are setting it up; and how to fix the ground sheet (not to mention the pup tent).
The tapes are a good idea but do mean there is very little manoeverabilitiy when putting in the poles and raising the tent off the ground. I have managed to cause a small tear in the end of one loop as I was trying to get the poles into the bottom rings (as per the instructions - and very good advice too !) . Once the tear is repaired it will always be a weakness. Not good news.
If anyone can advise on the ground sheet, I will welcome your comments. It has colour coded corners so you know which way to put it round but it also has a two sizes of eyeletted holes - some at the corner edges and some mid day along the edges and further into the main area of the ground sheet. What are these for ? How should I fix them ? It's a mystery to me !!!!
I also tried out the pup tent. This hangs from loops at each of the roof corners of the awning so that the tent ceiling is suspended. The tent sits more or less in the middle of the awning and takes up most of the room. I intend to use my awning for storing a lot of "stuff" (porta potti, clothes, veggies, kids toys, or bicycle etc) as well as relaxing in with my grandkids. If I were to use the pup tent I would also need to take my utility tent as I have done up until now.
I also have no idea how to really fix guy ropes. Someone else did my utility tent (which is neatly packed away). Does anyone have a good link that details how to prepare them, please ?
All advice will be gratefully received ! ;D
