Have a good trip - that's some miles for a first journey! It's lovely up there, try not to travel on the A9 at night (or go with extreme caution!!), its very hard to see the deer on the road and in the winter they come off the hills to forage for food and lick the salt off the road.
The last time I went in winter there were quite a number of dead deer at the side of the road, especially over Slocht summit. Dread to think what damage they would do to a campervan.
Keep your eye on the weather - any heavy snow, get out of there fast - they shut the gates and you can't use the road, so you're stuck! No exceptions - you simply have to stay there until the road is cleared.

Glad you had a good time! wish I had been the other person on the A9 or at Carrbridge. I used to go once a year for the Carrbridge Music Festival, sadly defunct for a few years now.
Used to also go up a lot to Ankerville in Easter Ross, and still try to go once a year to see my friend Duncan in Aviemore.
Off to Skye and the Hebredes in May - can't wait!!

Folks I do Security Work (currently back in IRAQ )...but lived in my Duo..for 4 weeks non stop last summer ...night shifts on a powerline project.....needed Security to keep the Gypsies from Robbing the JCBs etc (very stereotypical impression of Gypsies i know ...not my thoughts ...the Insurance Company ) the only travellers i talked to were keen on my Romahome .....not the JCBs ....and i had a great time ....the other Security lads stayed in B&B at £30+ a night ..............i pocketed the "accomodation money" ....lived in my Roma.....and feasted on Steak.......ha ha ........................

Welcome to the forum Peter, I like the sounds of living in your Roma and feasting on steak. ;D
Perhaps you could ship your Roma over to Iraq and live in it there? I bet they've never seen one over there.

Peter You have the right Romahomer attitude..! Were these real gypsies you were guarding JCB's from or one of the other, less reputable groups of "Travellers". I had some experiences with travellers 15 years or so ago that confirmed every stereotype and prejudice you could think of. I had a factory unit on a small Industrial estate and every 18 months or so, they would descend on us in numbers, take over all the car parks to park their vehicles and live in and try to get into any factory they could day or night. We used lead for casting so they made a beeline for us It would take months to get rid of them and it was a highly stressful time for those with a business in the area. Happy days. Take care of your self in Iraq - I'll bet you're planning where to go in the van when you get back. Doug
