A few of you may remember that when I visited son last time I fell down last step of stairs and twisted my ankle just before the Bridgewater Carnival.
Well we visited again yesterday and Terry fell on exactly the same step and did the same. Bigger problem though as his seems to be worse and he can hardly walk.
Have warned son as there must be a problem with the step but nothing was obvious at the time and the light was on this time.
Terry has just warned me that he may not be able to get out to get me a Christmas present and on top of that he says I will have to do all his household chores for a few days, this means I will have to load the dishwasher and fill the sugar bowl.
Ah well.

Oh NOOOO!
Get better soon, Terry!
Definately something wrong with the step. Usually this is caused by a smaller down drop from last step to that one. It's actually illegal to build stairs with smaller/larger down drops, and inspectors won't approve DIY-built stairs which have uneven down drops (that's the space down between steps). My friend made his own stairs and the last one had a smaller down drop and they made him take it all down and start again!
Get your son to check the down drop measurements for the stairs - if it's wrong (I.e., not all the same measurement), he needs to correct it, or get his landlord to do it. Otherwise there will be claims for compensation for injury!

Sorry to hear that Viv, give Terry our best wishes for a speedy recovery. By the sounds of it his household chores are very similar to mine I always load the dishwasher.
Are you sure he's not just making the most of it ;D.
As for your Christmas present put him in front of the computer and get him shopping on line, it saves all that trudging around the shops in the cold and wet.

Glad to hear you provide so much help in the house Graham.
I actually think Terry may be making a meal of it, he is a man after all. He is hobbling and groaning, I have told him to try and walk normally and just put up with the pain because if he carries on like he is he will ache all over the rest of his body with the distorted walking he is doing.
As for putting him in front of a computer, he thinks 'on line' is the dancing I do on a Monday morning!!!!
Jayjay I think you may be right about the step and I will advise my son to be extra careful, this is an old victorian house so is not covered by building regs about this. Thankfully no broken bones.

So sorry to hear of Terry's accident - hope that he is soon feeling better. I think that loading dishwashers is a 'man thing' as John does it in our house and gets quite cross if I put something in as it's always in the 'wrong' place.

Hi Viv, Sorry to hear about Terry. He can always phone your daughter and ask her to buy your present, so that it will be there on Christmas morning for you to open.
Sorry, but I have the washing up to do, usually every couple of days!!!

Sorry to hear that and hope he gets better soon/
Tell Terry though he still has time to shop online. Lots of shops.
Viv - Simon gave up sugar as he couldn't be bothered filling the bowl and claims to be too busy to buy presents or a dishwasher although can spend lots of time talking (phone, msn or face to face) lol.

Some good ideas here about how I can still get a present. I had not quite realised just how much Terry does as he has just asked me to do the following chores which he normally does: 1) Put the beer in the fridge 2) Put the dishes near the dishwasher so he can load it (he actually said I would never manage to load it correctly) 3) Organise the recycling and empty the yellow box into the green bin - or was it the brown box into the blue bin? ? 4) Take the car in to do the flat tyre. 5) Get his slippers. 6) Put the nuts out for the squirrel. That is the lot. So since this usually takes him all day I am off now and won't be back on net until tonight. Bye
