Hi. Does anyone have problems with radio reception in an older model C15 Hi Top? Mine is an 1995 model but has a fairly modern blaupunkt (is that how you spell it?) radio cassette player. There's a small black aerial (I assume attached!) just above the windscreen but it doesn't seem to pick up many stations. On my travels so far I've only picked up one FM station briefly. Aside from that nothing at all. Any clues anyone? Thanks, Sooz

Hello Sooz
Don't know the model - but I suspect it could be fitted with an aerial amplifier, powered by the radio - and if the radio has been changed, which I imagine it has, maybe the amplifier didn't get re-connected?
I'm sure Ant could confirm whether this is the case.

Hi Sooz. The Radio you have was the original fitted by Citroen, the problem you have is more likely to be an earthing problem. If you prise off the grey plastic thing between the sun visors you will see the aerial fitting, often the aerial cable becomes badly attached to the actual aerial and the inner wire touches the outer braid earth. If that happens you effectively have no aerial and therefore no radio!

Thanks for the replies. I'll check out the aerial connection tomorrow Ant. I suspect you're right. Thanks again, Sooz.

Just a thought, is the other end actually plugged into the radio properly, it may have worked loose?

OK guys I'll own up. I haven't had time to check my radio since my last post cos of work commitments. I'm taking all the advice on board as I'm off for a long weekend this week as its summer soltice and I'm really an old hippie! ;D I'll check out connections, aerial etc and let you know how I get on. Myself and some friends celebrate summer soltice every year usually by camping and doing the whole camp fire thing and stuff. But before you think we're too silly we don't do any dancing round the campfire naked nonsense! We sing and tell stories and jokes and sometimes talk about what we've been doing for the past year. Hope this doesn't offend any true pagans. We also celebrate winter soltice cos it happens to be my birthday some times I will get back to you on the radio problem when I resolve it, in case other people are having problems. Thanks for all your advice, sooz

I was just getting interested there until you said you don't dance naked round the camp fire. ;D
Sounds like you have a good time anyway, hope you enjoy your weekend.

Graham, I'm so shocked that you're only interested in the dancing naked thing and not the truly riveting part of the thread about radios! ;D We had a fantastic time at soltice in spite of the weather - god help those who were at Glastonbury! We had rain but not at the biblical proportions of those places which were flooded over the weekend. My heart goes out to the who suffered through that. I didn't have time to even switch on the radio, never mind fix it so I'll be tackling that problem over the next couple of weeks cos I won't be traveling. I'll post my results here. It's a bit of a problem for me just to pop out to the van as I live in a flat and have to park the van two streets away. I live in what would be considered to be a fairly good part of town, but as I don't have a driveway nor can I park immediately in front of the house, I park Rhonda (yes I've given my van a name too ;D) reversed up against a wall in a residents car park. Its a sad fact of today that I can't just park her at the end of my street but take her where I think she's safest. But anyway, for an old girl she runs really well and I look forward to my two week holiday in her at the end of July. Sooz.

Hi,
Just been on two weeks holiday in Rhonda and took the opportunity to try to resolve my radio reception problem. Checked the aerial connection behind the grey panel as per Ant's advice but the connection was perfectly good. Looked like it hadn't moved since the day it was installed and felt totally solid. I also checked the connections at the back of the radio as far as I could (difficult to get to) and everything seems to be ok. Looks like I'll have to get someone to look at it for me - I think someone at work knows more about this than I do.
Meanwhile I just played CD's on the journey instead via one of these wee attachments. Hope noone heard my singing!

Well, a year later and I still hadn't got around to getting the guy from work to check out my radio as i've been playing cds all the time. Then a miracle! On my way home from a trip up to the Moray coast at the weekend, pulled out the cassette attachment that lets me play cds and the radio suddenly came on ;D No explanation for this but hey, I've got a radio!
