Hi, just returned from a 6 day drive to Scotland and back again, this time 400 miles in a fast car, to Ankerville, Tain in Easter Ross-shire and back... Had a bad cough for weeks and finally went to the docs this am, so I have some antibiotics for it now... and some nicorette chewing gum. So I guess I'd better give up the havanna cigars then! Bet you thought I'd gone quiet, didn't you? LOL!! ;D

Sorry to hear you have been poorly JayJay, lets hope the antibiotics do the job. Yes it has been quiet on here the last few days, we miss your posts they certainly seem to generate some talking points, welcome back.
Thanks for the birthday wishes in the other thread.
Graham

Hope you get better soon Jayjay. Hope you have more success than me giving up the evil weed. I tried a couple of months ago via the practice nurse - failed miserably but I will try again. Just got to get in the right frame of mind!

Thanks Chriss and Moya! Still waiting for the antibiotics to work... Not improved any really I'm down to me last lung! It's so tiring - I dread going to bed at the moment, it's always worse then. Have cut ONE cigarette out of the day, first one in the morning. I don't know if that's an achivement, Moya! It's dreadfully hard to stop. I have Paul McKenna's 'Give up Smoking Today' book and hypnosis Cd - it's pretty good, plenty of litle tips to help fight the weed, so we'll see!

Well done Jay Jay giving up one cigarette a day is an achievement, just think of all the money you will have to spend on camping when you have given up completely Hope you're feeling better soon. Graham (Holier than thou - gave up 34 years ago )

Hi Jayjay Hope you're feeling better soon - just don't understand if you have stopped the first fag of the day then does that not make the next one the first one,if so then if you stopped the first fag of the day then you have stopped smoking -or is that too simple?

I have Paul McKenna's 'Give up Smoking Today' book and hypnosis Cd - it's pretty good, plenty of litle tips to help fight the weed, so we'll see! I think I might be verging on a world record for things I have tried to give up over the years. Hypnosis twice (cost me a fortune), gum, patches, Zyban tablets, nasal spray, lozenges, Alan Carr's stop smoking book & cd all to no avail unfortunately. It's hard work all this trying to stop smoking. The patches were good Jayjay (got those from the nurse on my last attempt) but they burnt my skin so had to sop using them. If your skin isn't too sensitive they might be worth a try. At the end of the day I suppose it is all down to willpower. I obviously haven't got much of that. Hope you are feeling better now though and keep on trying. I'll let you know if I ever manage it.

LOL Fuzzy! I wish....! Moya I've tried all those things too, including the book you mentioned and two lots of hypnosis, and NLP. I haven't tried the patches as I know they will react with my skin. Have you tried the inhaler? It's pretty good, combined with the gum. Inhaler first thing am, gum later - nothing worse than gum first thing, yack! I did give up for 9 months on the gum years ago... so it does work. I think Paul McKenna has some good devices for coping as well.. here's hoping the whole lot combined works! My cough is much better, not quite gone, but better. But I haven't given up smoking yet!
