Does anyone keep a tally of the nights that they spend in their van? I do with a brief note of the campsite (location, facilities etc.). So far this year we have managed 78 nights and hoping for a few more before the end of 2006.

I thought we were doing well Wendy but no comparison to your 78 nights. I keep a record as well. It is interesting to look back through the year and see where we have been, even if sometimes it might be a site we use more than once. At the moment for this year I think we have had 32 nights away. Work should be banned it interferes too much with our camping weekends!

Does camping up in the kid's gardens count??? We do not have hook up at either and it is hardstanding on one and grass on the other. No showers at one but toilet facilities at both. One is at the seaside and one in the touristic area of shropshire/Worcester.
We get breakfast at one and not the other.
We have to pay site fees although this takes the form of paying for dinner for them at the local hostelry.

Sound like it might be an expensive campsite!

Note to Pauline - How do I get two quotes in one message? If you mean to quote two parts of the same message or the same message twice, then just select "quote' as normal but before removing any of the message copy and paste it below. Then remove what you want from the top quoted message, add your message below. Then repeat with lower quoted message. Oh dear, I bet this doesn't make sense (except to me!!! ) How do I get two quotes in one message? Look, I've just told you!! ;D It does gt a bit complicated though, finding what bits you want to cut out.

Thanks for you msg. Had a mini-fit this evening packing my case, weighed to what I thought was 30kgs, and it was fairly empty!!!! took out clothes and I thought I might as well be nude!!
You guessed it, it was 30lbs!!!! so put all back in and some more so I am now a happier bunny. And looking forward to NZ, forecast is rain for the first few days after our arrival, not sure how I shall get on with a Very Big Motorhome, I have not driven such a large vehicle for 20yrs! hope it is like a bike - you dont forget.
Have sufficient memory cards for my camera to be able to take 2000 photos, though I am unsure how to upload to this site, NO I will not post them All on here.
See you all end of November.

Don't worry we will all be here to offer help and advice on how to upload (some) of the photos Have a great time and as the roads out there are so big your hired motorhome will probably feel as small as your Freda.

We keep a journal of all our trips. a list in the back of sites visited, price etc and an entry in the front with the funny things that have happened on the trip.
We have almost completed log number 2 in three and a half years campievanning.
Nice long weekend next week and the same at Abbey Wood just before Christmas.

Hi All We're going to keep a record of sites visited (only 2 so far - CC at Banchory and Killin - both excellent). We're also marking our road atlas with a highlighter to record routes we've taken. We do this already on an Ordnance Survey map for bike rides in the local area and find it adds to the fun! Thanks again for your welcome and help

I think it should be about 50 nights, most of ours is one night stays as work gets in the way with a couple of seperate weeks and some long weekends. Thats a lovely idea Barbara with the road atlas. You will have to keep the same one and not update it. Perhaps you could use a diferent colour pen each year. So where is the furthest you have been. We visited Orkney in June and Ireland in August. I would love to hear about some of the trips other members have made. Trying to get rid of the sad faces on the front pages when there haven't been any posts (I think)

The sad faces mean that there are messages that you haven't read. Jana, you've done well with 50 nights and still working. Barbara, that is a good idea highlighting the road atlas - we have a friend who does that for all his cycling trips.

Hi,
Just returned from NZ and the Motorhome was brilliant, 6m long and 3.2m high, a mercedes it drove like a dream, even on the alping roads it held firm.
I wish I could justify buying one for here! I named her NZ Freda3 we were unfortunate with the weather first driving snow, high winds, plenty of rain, thunder and lightening, fog oh I forgot, 3 days of that thing called sunshine!!!
NZ is brilliant, the South Island is anyway, trees/plants/gardens mountains and rivers, I have never ever seen so many rivers and creeks! after some very heavy rain, the rivers were at least 1/2mile wide and raging torrents complete with whole trees in them, also lupins growning wild everywhere.
gravel river beds, full of pink/blue/lemon lupins, it is a picture!!
Roads are really good, good signage no problems at all, and will return agains only for longer, we didnt have sufficient time to see all. But we did see 4 sperm whales/pod of dusty dolphins and a couple of albratrosses plus yellow eyed penquins and fur seals.
Also our trip to Singapore for retail therapy was good as well, it is a lovely place to visit, very polite and helpful ppl, colourful and clean, best of all we have a virtually empty plane home, so we had a row of 3 seats each, so that we could lie down and have a snoozer on the 12.5hr flight, plenty to eat and drinks, the Singapore Slings went down extremely well I must say.
On another note, I have read the Roma forum, and I personally would not give them any reply to the nonsense written by the '3ppl' You do a sterling job on here Pauline and Graham, you have good friends who know you better, so ignor such childish and churlish remarks, just jealousy there is always one.

Glad to hear that you are safely back and that you enjoyed your trip. When you've had time to sort yourself out, can we have some photos please? Re: the Roma forum - we all had our say when the first message went on and have ignored them since hoping that will annoy them more than anything!

As Graham says, thanks for your kind remarks re the Forum, and as you say "there is always one" and the emphasis is on ONE!

I think I am banning Christmas shopping! now have to buy a new gas fire, mine gave up the ghost this morning!!!! but I did some Christmas shopping whilst away, plus I am a spendaholic, so need to stay away from the shops, but I even shop online!!!
Yes, I did have a fanastic time, I can strongly recommend NZ South Island, especially if you like walking and total peace and quiet, rainforest and birds. ( feathered type of course)

Glad you're home safe and sound ;D
I would love to see your pics (when you get time) as I think "normal" peoples pics can show off a place better than pro. pics.

Hi Joan Glad you are home safe and sound and it looks like you had a wonderful time. I would love to go to New Zealand and it is one of my ambitions. How long do you think would be a reasonable time to go for? I hope you can get to a meet and bring some of your pictures and I would love to ask you more about this about this kind of holiday.
As I am the main driver I am interested in the roads are they good? Did you hire your camper?

Sounds like you had a great time Joan. As the others have said if and when you get time it would be good to see a few photos. We have thought about doing that sort of thing one day but in Australia as we have friends we would love to see out there. Maybe one day we will make it. Not so good coming back to your poorly gas fire though. Hope you get it sorted ok especially as it is getting colder now.
