Our van has no integral heating system. Although we are quite hardy folk, we wish to purchase some form of heating as we are away between Christmas and new year. Any ideas would be looked at gratefully. Thanks !

When we had a Duo we just used a small fan heater in fact we use the same heater in the Dimension and it warms us up nicely.
Not sure what kw it is but can soon have a look if it helps you.

We use a small fan heater than can be set to 1kw or 2kw. We've hardly ever used the 2kw setting. It also has a frost setting, so you could, in theory, leave it on overnight when very cold. We have never felt the need to have heating on overnight - it just needs to be handy for turning on in the morning. Also the fan can be used with no heat in the summer - very useful with this global warming.

If we go away in winter we have always used the fan heater as we always stay where we can have a hook up so it is not necessary to use the integral heating. We did run the heating (off diesel engine) last weekend to try it out but not actually needed unless we have no electricity.

I've had a look around myself for small fan heaters, rather than use the diesel when on EHU.
B&Q sell a unit that is 750Watts (about 3amps), so no problem with the amp limit on hookup. It was about £10 when I sam it a couple of weeks ago. Quite small and compact, but sucks air in from back and blows out of the front so would need to be kept out of corners etc.

We have got a small 1kw fan heater which has a thermostat on it so will cut in when the temperature drops below whatever you have it set on. We used it last winter and kept us nice and cosy.

Hi, I have a small oil-filled radiator from B & Q about £14, it is small enough to fit between the settees I usually have it just behind the cab seats, in the living area, and when the bed is made up as a dble it sits snug in the doorwell, again this has frost guard, no noise no lights to disturb you. brill.

Hi Alan. I fitted in my Outlook,an Electric Heating Tube. You can get them From 2ft to 4ft in length & 80 to 500 watts in power. I fitted it under the bench seat which is out of the way. Its 3ft long and 180 watts in power. Its Adequate for the area to heat I'm warm blooded anyway. Behind it there is Radiator reflective foil to protect the glass fibre. and a wire mesh to protect the unit and your feet. Its easy to fit only a few small nuts and bolts. Any D.I.Yer can fit it. I have photographs if only I can figger out to post them on the site. I hope this is helpful. Dave (Gingertom)

That sounds an interesting type of heater, can they be free standing too? Would love to see a photo and adding photos is easy once you get the hang of it. Simply go to the "Upload an Image" option on the post message page. (Just under the add smilies) Here you can browse for your photo then click "host it". It will then be hosted on Image Shack. When uploaded you will then have the option to choose how to show the picture in the message - Clickable Thumbnail, Link to Picture or Full size image. I would recommend Clickable Thumbnail as it resizes large pictures into a small manageable size. Good luck!

I saw just the thing today in Maplins (electronics) catalogue - a self-heating electric waistcoat. It operates from 6 AA batteries. Only £19.99. They had gloves as well.
