Hi, Just managed to sneak a couple of days away before the Easter rush starts at the Youth Hostel. Next day off is the 15th. We stayed at a CL site at Wick Farm in Burnham-On-Crouch. The owners have been doing lots of countryside stewardship work and it is a lovely farm to stroll around. The highlight was loads of corn buntings, they claim to have up to 150. These are such a hard bird to see these days. They have set aside a field to encourage lapwings to breed, which has been a success and they have also had dotterel in this field. All we saw there were oystercatchers. They also have a bird hide overlooking a small reservoir, not much on except for a few tufted duck and a little grebe. The site is £7.50 inc. electric and a toilet and shower. There are horses in the neighbouring fields and a llama. It is a 15 minute walk to the sea wall which you can follow to get in to Burnham. We also took a visit to Bradwell to see what was around when the tide came in. We saw brent geese and a good mix of waders including plenty of sanderling and turnstones. In the field behind me I saw something out of my eye corner and just got the bins on it as it flew in to a bush and I'm 95% sure it was a ring ouzel. Waited for ages for it to come out again but no luck. A nice little break but that Easterly coming straight off the sea was very cold.

Sounds like a nice place, a variety of wildlife - Llama included! Shame you couldn't get a good look at the possible Ouzel. Hope the Easter rush isn't too bad.
