Hi Mike. Pipe changing time depends on the number of lunkens ( the armoured type) you have and that depends on the age of the vehicle. C15's upto 1993 had 3 hoses, Duos upto 2002 had 3 hoses, all others had 2 until very recently when Romahome stopped using them altogether. C15's take about an hour, Duos a bit longer. If you want me to change them give Pam a ring and book them in fairly soon as the workshop is a bit busy at the moment ( 2nd week in October I have a free day, then I'm away at the NEC show, next free day is 24th Oct!) Hi Bathcat. It looks like a genuine 93 Romahome from the pictures posted, the body and interior trim match the age, the lack of bulkhead behind the cab seats also matches the age. My gut feeling is that it is not a clone and looks pretty good for its age. Between 4 and 5 thousand would be the going rate for a private sale with no back-up. Ant

Ant,
Thanks very much for your helpful reply - much appreciated. I'm concerned because of the amount of stuff I've read on the 'All is not what it seems' thread on this site re. anachronistic vans/bodies.
What I don't understand is where all the spare bodies are coming from, to be available to fit to the vans. There can't be that many Romahomes involved in accidents, and if there were then you'd think the chances are that the body too would suffer enough damage in such an accident that it would also be a write-off. Perhaps I'm being thick but I can't understand how this practice can be as widdespread as it apparently is. Are unscrupulous people buying new bodies and whacking them on to old vans? But then why are some of the vans going for £3000-£4000. If you can buy a new body from Romahome surely it costs more than this, on its own.
We've talked about this here at home and none of us can understand how it's happening to such an extent, i.e. where are all the replacement bodies coming from?
Anyway, thanks again Ant,
Mick (bathcat)

Mick. The bodies are being removed from old vans that are either very high mileage or very rusty and unlikely to get another MOT without huge expense. Most of them are therefore 1980's bodies although there are some later bodies about now. Romahome never supply a body on its own and indeed have told those who swap the bodies to remove the Romahome name and graphics as it is no longer built to the high standards of the original match and they wish to be no part of it. The body swapping business is however a huge compliment to the quality of build of the Romahome body. Ant

Ant, thanks again for your input, and helpful reply. I suppose I should have thought of that, really. Actually I have never seen a Romahome in poor condition, but then I have not seen a great deal of them up here in Derbyshire.

Re. previous post: I should have said that, according to the seller's description, the vehicle was registered in 1993.

Ant What a very reassuring person you are. Just read your posting. THANK YOU cos I am a first time motor homer and Romahomer too. You have already helped with my question about Camping Gaz for which I am really grateful. Not sure where you are based but if it is withing striking distance of Dorset then I would love to become a new customer! We all should be truly grateful for you on our 'team'!!! I am sure I will have lots to ask - probably most of it common sense to you and all the other experienced Members, but nevertheless I am going to ask it!!!!

Hi Lizzie ( by the beach) I'm based a mile south of Bristol Airport on the A38. I have a small sign in my office that says " Don't be affraid to ask dumb questions, they're easier to handle than Dumb mistakes!" So feel free to ask, those who already know the answers only do so because they've already ask the question! Ant

Hi Ant, ;D ;D It can be done! Adam Coomb was kind enough to advise in March that although he hadn't seen one, he believed that the bed height had to be raised to accomodate the Romahome body - and he was right. It took a while to find a good low mileage Suzuki Carry pickup, but I now have a 2002, roomy cab(relatively), perky, quiet running and great to drive 1300cc Suzuki MKIV romahome. Cab/body window link still to be done, but a 200 mile test drive of the combination this week was a total success, although fully laden tyre pressures required of 29/50psi. Photos available and I will be happy to pass on the details to anyone interested in taking this upgrade route as I have never traced any other info on the net, not even a photo. You and Adam were the only help available.
Thanks again for the essential pointer.
Jim

Hi Ant. Any advice on how I might stop Elvis from creaking when I get in and out of the cab, please. I forgot to say in my previous posting that the origin of the creak is near the REAR nearside wheel with nothing obvious showing.
Thanks, Jax

Hi Jax. The creaking is almost certainly the rear trailing arm bush on the rear suspension, very common on the C15 once over a certain age and mileage. Sadly the cure is to have the bush replaced which requires a special spring compressing tool. I take all mine to a local Citroen suspension specialist in Bristol as I don't have the tool, he charges about £365 to do both sides. It may not be bad enough yet to need doing straight away but keep an eye on the inside side wall of the rear tyre, it will begin to rub on the wheel arch when you go over a bump. When it does you'll know the bush has failed and the wheel is now leaning in too much as a result. Obviously you then need to get it done straight away. Ant

Can I echo Ants advise but I would say get it doen asap. We had the nearside go when we were setting off for our holiday in France a couple of years ago. It meant that we had to be taken home onthe back of an AA relay wagon. We still went on holiday (we caught the same ferry) in our Berlingo car with camping gear instead. Our local Citroen Agent, J and A Rigbye and Sons near Chorley did ours for exactly the same price and they did it in one day.
Don't be tempted to buy a second hand rear suspension assembly unless you can guarantee that it is from a 800Kg van and is in really good condition. Most vans are only 600Kg.

Thanks Ant and Peter, I'll keep an eye on the inside wall of the rear tyre; no sign of it rubbing on the arch at present. Since the garage greased it I have not heard anything of the creak but I shall be vigilant and have kittens if it returns. This web site is so helpful and, to be able to go to a garage with an idea of possible cost, is reassuring. Lets hope Elvis was just having a bad day!
Thanks again, Jax

Hi everyone I purchased a 2002 Citroen Romahome in November. I have'nt used it yet as it needs some TLC, but I intend to try it out at Whitby at Easter. However I have no manual/book with it so I'm a little unsure on what goes where water pipes etc., Does anyone know where I could get a manual/booklet from? I'm hoping everything is straight forward or you may see it advertised after easter. Trish

Hi Trish, you'll find this website a real help, especially if you look at the Ask Ant section. You might find answers there before you even know the question! There is definitely a thread that will help you with getting a copy of a manual and good luck at Whitby. You don't say where you are located, but try coming to Wolverley in March if you can, it might be a great way to begin!!

Hi Jax I've sorted the manual out thanks to Nibbles. I don't think I'll be brave enough to meet with you all in March as it will be my first campervan "experience" but hopefully I'll get to see some of you over the summer. I'm in Sheffield. Tricia

Hi Trish Welcome. I'm interested to know what tlc is needed on a vehicle that's really not so old? What do you plan for your first venture? I'm based in the south but worked in Sheffield in 2006/7, Chesterfield before that and still have a base near Matlock. Isn't it a lovely part of the world! HI Ant Acording to Haynes the rear radius arm bushes should be done by Citroen. I am a fairly good DIY mechanic with most of the tools at my disposal. What do you do when doing these bushes. Malcolm

Hi Fiffies. Sorry I seem to have totally ignored you post from back in March regarding Radius arm bushes. I don't have the tool to compress the rear springs to do the job so just farm it out to my local Citroen specialist who charges about £140 a side to do the job. To make a spring compressor to do the job ( I was tempted) it needs to be much stronger than your average coil spring compressor and if it failed when the spring was compressed would certainly cause a massive injury if not death. Much easier to let someone else with the right tool do it. Sorry for the delay in replying I don't know why I missed your post. Ant

Hi Gregory
You would probably be better making a new threads, people would be able to see them better. Why not put the fridge question in our "Ask Ant" section, Ant is very knowledgeable about Romahomes and would probably be able to help you.
The other question about people travelling in the back of the van you could put as a new thread in the Romahome section.
Hope that helps Graham
