Is there anyone who has not at some time been frustrated by their pc.
Went to switch off last night and it would not turn off. Tried all the usual ways and in the end I just had to press the switch.
When I tried to use it this morning it turned on OK but nothing worked. the mouse worked but nothing would open not even my virus protection, not even solitaire.
After another two goes of just turning it off and then on I have managed to get it back to normal. It is like it was ill and has now fully recovered!!!!!!!!!! What gets into these things???

Goodness, what happened to our gentle Wendy!! Sorry to hear about your computer Viv, did you have withdrawl symptoms from not being able to play solitaire? Like many electrical gadgets they are great when they are working! If you have anything on your computer that you would hate to lose I would recommend backing it up. I don't want to worry you but........ A few years ago ours had similar problems to yours then it 'died' without warning. We lost all our youngest son's wedding photos and all of our first grandchild's 'just born' photos. Not to mention loads of important copies of letters and stuff. I also lost our website but luckily we managed to retrieve that back from the internet with some hard work. We now back everything up regularly and would urge anyone else to do the same. Hope I've not panicked you Viv!

Thanks Pauline for reminding me to back up, I do agree and recommend it to everyone. it's such a weight off your mind when it's done. I have just done backed up the most valuable files after chancing it for several weeks! We do know it makes sense after having had a nasty experience with a hard drive problem, but it takes some doing, keeping it up!

Glad I mentioned it now. We also lost all the email addresses of everyone we knew and all the bookmarks for our favourite websites including passwords which were on a 'remember me' setting, so because we never had to type them in we couldn't remember them when they were lost!! It might be worth keeping a separate note of these somewhere. It's something you don't think about but when it happens you realise just how much you keep stored on your computer. We have a second hard drive and download everything to that now. Then when we go on holiday we hide it away - you never know if a burglar might steal your computer!! (Are we paranoid or what!! ) Good luck!

Hi Viv Just a Little tip for you, if you have a DVD burner it would be better to use DVD +/-RW They hold a lot more MB. up to 4.3 GB.so they work out cheaper. And as you take more pics you can add them to the same DVD. Then to make doubly sure make a copy of the original DVD and keep it in a different place. If you don't have a DVD burner use CDRW as you can keep adding to it, and make a copy of this CD anyway Hope I am not trying to teach my granny to suck eggs!!! Martin

Hi Martin
Firstly although I am a granny I believe you are never too old to learn. Thanks for this advice, I do not know if I have a dvd burner, I will ask the little boy next door when I see him, he is my personal computer consultant, for a small pocket money fee!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will do what you suggest though and do the copies. asap
