The mobile phone company '3' has a terrific deal on a USB laptop modem for high-speed broadband with a pretty good coverage area in the UK. Contract starts at £10 per month for 1 gigabyte (about 30hrs of surfing per month, something like 300 emails - plenty!). What you pay for the modem depends on the length of contract you choose. I've yet to check out if they do a roaming deal for across the channel. With laptops, tvs, microwaves and awnings in our little vans, where the h**l will we sleep??

Jacquie
This sounds interesting - particularly if it extends abroad.
300 emails? Does that mean just sent or is it sent and received? (I get that many in per day).

Doug Well, this is where it gets a bit complicated. The £10 is for one gigabyte of data (the Lite contract, but you can get 3 gigs for £15 etc). They explain fairly clearly in their website what that might entail. Go to threestore.three.co.uk/mixnmatchphone.aspx?phonecode=3GUSBMODDSI just chatted online to one of their reps - you would get coverage in France but the cost would be £3 per megabyte - that could get very expensive. Good for sending the vey occasional email. Best to stick with McDs to send large attachments.
