I read in another thread about people using small oil filled radiators instead of a fan heater. Someone said it was safer. I use a fan heater with a thermostat and leave it on all night. Am I risking life and limb? I would have thought it was just as safe and much quicker heat. Regards Robin

Hi robin Probably read about our incident, we had left the fan heater on the floor and the bedding fell on to it and we were woken up by the smoke alarm. The bedding had singed and I am sure it would have gone up in flames. There is an element in fan heaters and in such a small space it is a bit risky. But if you take correct precautions then I suppose it should be fine.
Thank goodness for the alarm. The fan heater went back in the box and we bought an oil filled radiator from Halfords for about £15 ish.

I used to carry a fan heater with me but I bought a nice little oil filled radiator,I find the radiator gives a more constant heat and it doesnt suffer from the noise of the thermostat kicking in and out and of course the drone of the fan working. In a small space I find a fanheater dries the air too much as well. Hope this helps Dabs

We use a small ceramic fan heater with two heat settings, 900 or 1800 watts with the added advantage of a theromstat control. Have found that the 900 watt is more than enough at night and as we have two dogs, we tend to place it on top of the cooker to avoid bedding and so the lead is off the floor away from tiny paws. It can also be used as a fan in summer.
We purchased it from Currys, I think is £12.99
