We are trying to solve the problem of lack of support when we put the cushions together for a double bed. I am hoping if no one else can help that maybe Ant might know if he has had any customers who have had the same problem. We have got the pullman version of the Duo Hylo. Even though we have had the van for just over a year now we still can't solve it. We use the table as the centre support which is fine but the two ends where it is just the wooden struts supplied leave a great deal of the cushion in fresh air and one of the main seat cushions is starting to buckle. As I am typing this OH has gone to diy store for some plywood to see if we can do something. I told him he should lose some weight! Or maybe we are using it too often! Seriously though we have tried different combinations with the cushions - no good - in the handbook it tells us nothing as it shows the version with the two long seats and just says use the table if you have the pullman version. Is it just us or has anyone else got this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry can't help you with that Moya. In all the other style of vans there are 3 wooden bars to support the bed, seems strange that they left one out in the pullman option. Hope you get it sorted. Perhaps you could use a crate underneath it in the meantime rather than force the weight loss option on OH, it is nearly Christmas after all!!

There are three pieces of wood but you only use the middle one if you don't use the table. We tried it once without the table and just the three bars and that was even more of a disaster! I won't be cruel and make him lose weight now Pauline, all that xmas pud and cake to be eaten. It would mean I would have to go without as well.

Cil has the pullman version, so maybe you could send her a pm about it.

Hi Moya
Sorry to hear about the probs with the Hylo, have you contacted Romahome?
There was a review in the April 2006 Motor Caravan magazine where they covered the Pullman Duo Hylo. One thing they commented on was the lack of info about making up the bed.
Romahome told them that they were going to improve the handbook.

Hi Moya. I've just gone out to a Hylo Pullman here that is about the same age as yours and made the bed up both ways ( table infill and bit of wood). I'm 15 stone, and the only way I can make the bed boards bend is by Kneeling in the middle bit that has the least support, ( ie between table and front or back bit of wood). Having gone through this exercise I can't think you need to kneel on the front part and it is in fact the rear bed board that's giving trouble. If thats the case all you can really do is put a short "strong back" on the underside of the cushion, making sure that it doesn't go as far as the table when in the bed position and fits into the seat locker hole when in the seat position. If you are using a bit of wood to do it ( it will need to be about 40mm x40mm min) you need to fit it across the curve rather than down the valley. I agree with Pauline, if you're supposed to be enjoying yourselves with your Romahome, dieting has no place - at any time of the year!
If all your efforts fail, you'll have to let me have a go in the sping. Thank Ant

Sorry for the delay in replying and thanks to everyone for their help. I have definitely taken on board all comments re: dieting. I won't make Roger suffer the trauma of cutting down on his food! He laughed at your suggestion Pauline of using a crate underneath the bed. He purchased some mdf board and after much measuring and making up of bed we seem to have solved the problem. Still got to do some finishing touches this weekend with the dreaded velcro. Thank you Ant for taking so much trouble to actually make the bed up in a pullman version and replying. I think Roger must be just clumsy (hope he doesn't read this) as he isn't as heavy as you are Ant but does do a lot of kneeling on cushions when he has the bed made up! I must admit even I do when putting the bedding on but think I am a bit more careful than he is. We leave the cushions down the passenger side of van in situ, using the piece under the window for the bed extension, move the two long cushions from the other side across to meet them and then lay flat the two back rests under the window. Is this how you did it Ant? We have made from mdf board a piece that will permanently stay in place over the locker behind drivers seat, another piece that comes across from opposite locker to butt up to that one on the ledge of locker and a small piece to slot into the end by the cooker and sink. All we have to do now is put some velcro in the right places on the boards to keep the cushions in place. It has made a big difference and the board isn't too heavy and can store it in the luton area with the table. Roger can now be as clumsy as he likes! I think like you Pauline when you were testing for your leak we gave the neighbours a laugh. In the layby outside our house making the bed up, going in and out with bits of wood and finally laying on the bed to test it.

Hi Moya. Yes thats how I made the bed up ( it is the correct way), I tend to only kneel on the parts I know to be well supported. And no I'm not going on a diet either!! Ant

Hi all - hope Christmas was good.
The only problem I have with the bed is that the last bit of wood - the one nearest the sink/cooker - occasionally collapses as you get into bed if you put all your weight on it with your knees.
I avoid this by climbing in slightly sideways!
I haven't had the van long though, and will keep an eye on it.
