Having started tu use our new romahome we have noticed that there is a smell whenever we use the gas hob. Also the flames burn a little yellow (my basic knowledge of chemistry tells me that this is an air/gas mixture problem but I could be wrong). We are using camping gaz and our romahome is fitted witha clesse? regulator. Can you help please? Would we better switching to propane. We never had this problem with our old C15 romahome.

Hi Peter. Camping gaz has shown to give some problems when run through the new Euro regulator ( Clesse being one of them). Propane is stored at 100 psi rather than 30 psi for butane, the new regulators seem to be able to regulate better when stepping down from 100psi to 30mbar. There shouldn't be a problem with camping gaz and butane but often there is, nobody has been able to explain to me why! I'm sure if you use propane your problems will be sorted. Some months ago there was also a rouge batch of camping gaz which also had similar symptoms like blackening the bases of pots and smelling oily even after the gas was off. How long have you had the gaz bottle it may be from that batch! Lastly if your gas burns with a yellow flame you are not getting complete combustion and are therefore running the risk of producing carbon monoxide ( thats the bit of burnt gas that quietly kills you) open doors and windows to vent the van and check why the flame is yellow. It can be simple air restriction from spillages around the burner, a faulty regulator, a spider in the air inlet part of the burner, dodgy gas, the main thing is don't just ignore it. Thanks Ant

Thanks for the information. It cannot be the gaz bottle because it was fine in our C15. I will get propane cylinder as soon as possible
