Does anyone have any experience of the Suitcase Satellite Receiver that is sold by Maplins. It seems very cheap so there must be a catch to it. I was in the shop recently and someone was returning a set as they could not get it to work. But the assistant was saying that it needed a little Patience to get it to work.

Hi Eugene - yes, I have one, and an excellent bit of kit it is, too.
Bought with the intention of taking it away in the Bongo - but what with coolboxes and microwaves and awnings, we are fast running out of space - maybe we tend to overestimate the things deemed necessary for camping!!
I set the sat unit up in the garden, and was most impressed. You need a compass, and work out the direction to point the dish, but it isn't difficult. Recommended.

Hi Yamaha, Thanks for your information, about the Satellite Ariel I think that I will buy one. Does the Ariel have to be on a minimum height mast, as I would find it difficult to put it on the roof of my HyLo!! Regards, Eugene.

No - only for security/safety - as long as it's got a clear view from about 30 deg upwards, height makes no difference. If I decide to take mine with me, I would make up a small steel plate with a stub of tubing welded to it to accept a short pole. You park the plate under a front wheel, and it can't move - Bob's yer Uncle, Saraha's yer Aunt - job's a goodun!! ;D Mike
