Hi,
Just returned from a wonderful 2 week holiday in Rhonda. We had a great time but more about that later.
Just thought I'd post a bit of advice to newbie motorhome users - apologies in advance if this is obvious.
On our third night the electrics, via the hook up, failed at about 11pm. Since we had been 'plugged in' to the site for 2 days we couldn't work out what the problem was. Tried a spare socket at the pitch but no joy. Didn't disturb the site warden at that time of night so consulted him the next morning as we were moving on. He kindly went with us to check the site socket which was live and ok. I had already checked fuses etc in the van so he gave us the name of a caravan/motorhome dealer in the area to have our electrics checked. We went to the dealer who couldn't have been more helpful. The electrics guy checked the van then our cable. Turns out the plug into the van had fused due to me (shock horror!) not pushing it into the van socket fully ( I then remebered about half a centimetre gap when I put it in but couldn't move it further in so left it, stupidly).
The moral of the story is always make sure you push the plugs in fully at both ends otherwise they will fuse/melt.
PS The helpful site warden was Hugh at Cullen Bay site and the even more helpful dealer was Harpers of Elgin. The guy checking the electrics didn't charge for his time (ok it was only ten minutes but he looked at the van immediately though he was clearly in the middle of a busy day) and he removed the fused plug for me and bared the wires so I only had to buy a new socket at the shop instead of a whole new cable. Fitted the new socket myself in 5 minutes so deal done. ;D If you are ever in the north east of Scotland and have a problem with your van, I would highly recommend Harpers.
Sorry Ant but you were too far away!
Sooz.
