Having read some good advice on cookers here on the site ;D, I decided to take mine apart and give it a good check over. I have connected it and it lit ok, but it was burning with a bit of a yellow flame, not good. It must be the original cooker that came with the romahome pod... at least 20 years old! It had two long screws in the middle of each burner to remove. One came off ok, the other wouldn't budge - it was so old, the thread had worn a phillips screwhead into a round circle, impossible to unscrew... So I cut a new thread into the top with a junior hacksaw and undid it with an ordinary screwdriver, eventually, after much bad language! Underneath, the jets looked white with powdery stuff, so I scraped that off with a flat screwdriver and hoovered it out - calcium deposits? Don't know, just knew somehow that it shouldn't be there. Now I have to wire brush the burner fittings and maybe get a bit more of that white stuff off with some fine sandpaper. Check the valves don't leak with a bit of washing up liquid and then reassemble and switch it back on. Of course I may have done all this for nothing as it just might have been burning yellow because there was air in the pipes, nothing more. Still, you can't be too careful with these things, can you? Will update when I have it all checked and back together!

Jayjay. Those old cookers were very prone to yellow tipped flames if the air was restricted, by cleaning the white bits etc and keeping the burning rose clean you should have cured all your ails. Ant

Thanks, Ant! Good to know I was doing the right thing. I don't want to have to buy a new one unless I have to. Just about to finish off cleaning it and put it back together and see if it works properly. Otherwise it's sandwiches for me..!
