Hi all, Question about the exhaust and air intakes on my propex heater.
I have a 'bendy' metal pipe on the air inlet side of the system. It isn't anchored down and can be moved in any direction facing back or sideways. It is about 18" long. (I haven't been metricated) !
However on the exhaust side there is just about a 2" stub pointing vertically down from under the floor pan of the van.
I am a bit concerned that I may be inputting some of the exhaust gasses back into the system.
The heater works well - but I am wondering if something is missing or not ?
Also, can you run them from the blue gaz cylinders or must it be the red propane type ? I have tried both and it seems to work but I would like to know for sure. Just in case I wake up dead one morning!!
Any tips / help /advise gratefully received.
Cheers Scotty.

Hi Scotty. The exhaust pipe to your propex should be taken to the side of the van, the reason being there are many vent holes under there to let any leaking gas out which could let the exhaust fumes in. You can use any type of LPG on the heater, the blue will however stop working in low temps just when you really need the heater! When the heater is running just check you,ve got the inlet and exhaust the right way round before changing anything. Ant

Many thanks ant. Looks like I have a pipe connected to the inlet instead of the exhaust ! If I swap it over, is it ok to leave the inlet as just a small stub pointing down like the exhaust is right now ? or do I need a pipe on them both ?
Cheers Scotty.

Scotty. The inlet pipe can be a short stub or nothing at all provided it has some protection from road dirt etc. Ant

Thanks ant. I did have a switched Pipe. I have now installed it on the exhaust side of the heater and routed it to the outside of the van at the rear wheel arch and clipped it into position. I also put a jubilee clip on the propex heater end of the pipe. ( it was just pushed on) !!
I need to find a supplier of the bendy pipe now as the existing 1 is crumbling away in places.
Considering that this van had a recent habitation check up, I'm astounded by this recent finding. Needless to say - it was NOT at your establishment... no names, but it was a dealer.
Many thanks for the superb help and advice. Guess where I will be visiting if I need any work doing properly ?
Cheers and Beers Scotty. (or should that be cider?)
Post script.... Managed to get a length of stainless steel flex pipe from propex. It looks like it will last forever but is very difficult to clamp tight at the exhaust outlet of the propex unit. I managed to strip the gears on all my existing stocks of jubilee clips. ! I found one clip which was very old but looked more sturdy than the new ones and it did tighten up ok. It looks very smart now but hope it stays on ? time will tell. I hope so as it cost me £25.00. ouch !
