Having bought a Romahome lately, I've just for the first time exchanged an empty 2.7kg Camping Gaz cylinder for a full one. I did this at my local, very old-fashioned hardware shop. He charged me £23. Is that about normal?

Is that the 907 size? If so then it sounds expensive, we used to pay around £10 - £12 on campsites and our local caravan sales shop.

I paid about £16 for a 907 Camping gas cylinder, back in the summer, which was up from the £10 I paid in April. I think you have been overcharged, Andrewjc.Go back and query the price. J&P Cornwall

Hi everyone and Happy New Year!
I take it the older model Romahomes have smaller gas lockers than the newer ones?? I use 3.9kg Calor and it costs £12.99 to refill. What a rip Camping Gaz is! Has anyone info on Gaslow refillable cylinders as they pertain to Romahomes? The cylinders look too big to fit in our lockers. Looking at options as I'm spending a month on the continent in March - the nasty Camping Gaz people may have me yet!
Hello to all the new people - the site is becoming a force to be reckoned with!

Thanks, everyone. I like to support the old guy in his old-fashioned shop, but that's taking it a bit too far! I'll look elsewhere next time...

Hi Andrew. The recommended retail price for a 907 refill gaz bottle is 13.99 plus 5%vat which comes to 14.69. If you need to get a new bottle ( Full) it costs £51.64. Retailers are free to sell them for what they think the market will stand.

Hi Ant Happy New Year,
As you pay so much more for a full cylinder, if you ever give up needing gaz can you hand in the empty bottle and get back the 'deposit'?

Hi Pauline. Happy New Year to you and yours. Gaz bottle deposits are a bit of a grey area. In theory the bottle has a returnable deposit in practice you need the original rental agreement in order to reclaim the deposit. However nobody ever has an agreement, or is offered one when they buy a new bottle. In fact my gaz supplier doesn't give me any paperwork but would reimberse me if i ever stopped supplying gaz. So in answer to your question, you may have to take your bottle to a large supplier or wholesaler and try your luck. As you can buy the bottles from the Free ads papers for a few quid each, the suppliers can be a bit reluctant to pay up without the paperwork. Luck of the draw I'm affraid!
