When I pull the plug out of the sink, the water drains VERY slowly into the waste tank. If I remove the cover from the top of the tank, the water seems to drain faster. Should there be a vent from the tank, to relieve build up of air pressure (released by opening the cover), or am I experiencing an audible delusion?
I know that the outlet from the sink waste fitting is very small diameter, so the water will not exactly gush away, but it seems slower now than when we first used the van. Also, the very last quarter inch in the sink outlet seems to stay for ages.
The connecting pipe from sink to tank seems totally inaccessible, so how would one clear a blockage, should there ever be one?
Externally, there is a little rubber pipe protruding below the floor, a little way in front of the waste drain valve, but I presumed that this was a vent from the leisure battery. Am I right in this, I cannot find the inboard end of this rubber pipe, so now that is confusing me.
Much confusion reigneth ...

Should there be a vent from the tank, to relieve build up of air pressure (released by opening the cover), or am I experiencing an audible delusion? Don't think there is a vent, I guess the air finds its way back up the pipe. I know that the outlet from the sink waste fitting is very small diameter, so the water will not exactly gush away, but it seems slower now than when we first used the van. Also, the very last quarter inch in the sink outlet seems to stay for ages. Pipe partly blocked? Slows the water going down and stops the air coming back, when the tank cover is off, things may be quicker, sort of logical Externally, there is a little rubber pipe protruding below the floor, a little way in front of the waste drain valve, but I presumed that this was a vent from the leisure battery. Am I right in this, I cannot find the inboard end of this rubber pipe, so now that is confusing me. I think the vent pipe is connected to the actual battery inside the battery box The connecting pipe from sink to tank seems totally inaccessible, so how would one clear a blockage, should there ever be one? Good question, blow it out I suppose. We had a little problem with the cutlery drawer getting wet. It turned out that the plastic sink waste had cracked and was leaking. I replaced it with a different type that I think does the job better (It was the only one I could find that would fit ;D ) The 'ole is smaller but is the same size as the pipe it is connected to which seems logical to me. I used white silicone sealant to seal it (like you use round a bath) and it seems OK. Derek

I may be wrong but I have a recollection of seeing a small-diameter pipe sticking out under our Duo a foot or two further forward than the waste water drain tap on the near side. Could that be a breather pipe from the waste tank? (And could also act as an overflow?) Just a thought... Maybe I dreamt it..zzzzzzzz Keith

Perhaps I should go back to sleep - now I've read the post again I seem to have repeated what's already been said.
Incidentally my leisure battery doesn't seem to have a vent pipe - the two holes, one at each end, are both sealed off, although the battery itself doesn't seem to be 'sealed for life' as I had to top up the cells quite considerably recently.

I have just gone out with a torch, in the rain, and looked underneath mine. There are two pipes, one for the batt under the passenger seat and another clear plastic pipe coming out of the sill directly below the passenger door handle, guess that must be the vent for the waste tank. Please ignore previous ramblings as appropriate.

Shall I just ease the confusion. The pipe coming out of the nearside sill is a diesel tank breather, the waste tank does not normally have a breather, the theory being that you can only put a sink full at a time in it and the preasure build up would barely effect the flow before the pipe was able to back breath. Fat deposits are the main culprits for slowing drains, hot detergent clears most, otherwise hold a suitable sized pipe over the sink drain and blow! Ant

I have got a net curtain wire with a brush on the end that I use to clean my trumpets!! That will do the trick on mine I think. But our pump doest work/isnt conected to the water tank whereever that is, if we have one, I have yet to investigate that one on our little Acty

Just when you thought this thread was dead and buried ..... The sink finally stopped draining altogether! Pull the plug out and the washing up water just sat there looking back at me. But .. release the waste tank cover and lo ... the sink emptieth immediately. Therefore waste pipe NOT blocked. Rummaging around inside the waste tank, I discover TWO holes at the back end, one being the inlet from the sink, the other one ... ? I deduce this MUST be a vent/overflow. I managed to insert about 6 feet of electrical cable into this orifice before it came to a dead stop. Outside, I went back to the little pipe protruding from the nearside sill just behind the passenger door. I could only insert about 2 inches of wire before coming to a blockage. Surgery was applied with a sharp pointy object and a large amount of mud (?) was extracted. Wire re-inserted for about a foot. Sink refilled, tank cover sealed tight, plug pulled, sink drains immediately. Other half places thumb over end of outside plastic pipe, sink draining stops immediately. Thumb removed, sink resumes emptying. Conclusion - Berlingo based Duo DOES have a vent from the waste tank, and it can get blocked, apparently, with road dirt at the little plastic pipe under the nearside sill. NB mine is a 2001 HyLo, other models may vary
