Many of you will be aware of the "unwritten law" of motorhomes, ie when you see another motorhome you give a friendly wave.
We always try to do this and mostly get a friendly wave back, but this weekend we saw a large motorhome coming towards us so we both gave our usual wave and were delighted to see a manic mechanical hand waving back at us. I think it was attached to the dashboard and the passenger must press a button or something.
It certainly gave us a good laugh, so thank you whoever you were and if you read this where did you get it cos we would love to get one ;D

I like the idea of that. Could have great fun. Oh well in the meantime I suppose I will still have to wave like a maniac with oh thinking I am bonkers.

Please keep the waving thing going! Made us laugh and smile during our recent trip. Some even started waving before us - others caught on. Its great when you start out on a days journey to get a cheery wave from another motorhomer. And then it carries on.........

We have noticed that some owners seem to wait to see if you are going to wave and then when you do they reply. We always try to wave unless we are busy concentrating on which way to go i.e. roundabout, but we have been waved at from the opposite side of the motorway!

This waving business is one of the things I enjoy its a good laugh waiting to see if its reciprocated.I drive a Mazda Bongo and the one rule of the Owners Club is that You wave at other Bongos when on the road its great fun especially if it comes back. Be assured of a wave from Me but its a bit uncertain waving at strangers especially in different make of Camper. Ill give it a go!!

I didn't realise that waving extended to all motorhomes, I've only been waving to other Romahomes (which seem to very rarely cross my path!). So apologies to any non-Romahomers who I've ignored

For us it's a polite wave to another type of van, but a manic wave to another Romahome!! and if we see another Dimension, we go mental!! ;D (Will move this thread to the was it you/waving section - seems more appropriate in there now)

if you are a first time motorhome owner, don`t forget to tell your partner that you will get a wave from other motorhomes. let me explain, the first van we ever had was a type 2 vw in 1985, we went for a little drive, and five minutes from our house we stopped at a set of traffic lights that were on red, after a few seconds on the opposite side of the traffic lights another type 2 vw pulled up my wife commented oh look theres one like ours, and the driver in the other vw started waving, at this point the lights turned green, and still the other driver was still waving as we passed each other, well world war 3 nearly broke out (why i hear you ask) you guessed it the other driver was a young blond haired women. well very luckily ten minutes later we sore another vw and it was an older couple and they waved, so it was then we realised that waving was the thing campers did, and all was well again, thank goodness. so don`t say i did`nt warn you.
we will be traveling from Cheshire down to dorset on Wednesday, in my duo outlook, so i expect to see plenty of wavers out there. and not the two fingered type either thank you. (ha ha)

what a brilliant idea - just replied about a Dimension who waved at me but like others no idea that it extended to ALL motorhomers! Do you remember (post 1945) when those of us who had AA badges on our cars got a wave from the AA motor cyclist? I had an AA badge on my very ancient Hillman Minx Convertible (hand painted red and called 'Josephine', cost £40) I felt so guilty cos the badge came with the car and I couldn't afford to join............ incidentally when I say 'post 1945 I meant the car which was about 1949 and I bought her in 1966 -- he ho those were the days!
