Hi Peter. A cruise control fitted to a diesel always presents a few problems, the main one being the nature of a diesel and its ingition - A petrol engine has a spark created by the vehicle ignition system, this is used to count how many sparks are going off in a given time and hence the cruise control can work out the engine speed and relate that to the road speed in top gear. A diesel has no spark so very often magnetic weights are fitted to the drive shaft with a sensor mounted to count the number of revelutions to get the information required. Sometimes you can use a rev counter but the modern electrics now use a mix of wire and fibre optics so great care must be taken when playing with the electrics. Better to have it fitted by a specialist. Ant

We have had 2 (in different vehicles) cruise controls fitted by: www.davenewell.co.uk/We have been very satisifed with the service and have no connection with him other than as satisified customers. Ours is fitted on our Dimension (diesel).

Hi Wendy has asked me to tell you a bit about our cruise control I can give you a bit of information on the one he fitted for us, about 3 years ago, but there are more types available now and it would probably be best to talk to Dave Newell direct.
The one we have is the Gold ZT 25 model - the control is stalk mounted on the steering column and the stalk end twists to set the desired speed when it is reached. Also there are 3 buttons which we have set at 30, 40 and 50mph. There are over-ride controls on the brake and clutch pedals to cut out the control when these pedals are touched.
I hope that this info is clear. I would say that this equipment is excellent and I wouldn't want to do a long journey without it

For anyone who runs a Citroen Picasso (I dont know if this applies to other Citroens), You may be able to fit Cruise Control very easily.
If there is a stalk on the right hand side of steering column that controls the radio you have probably got an ECU that has Cruise Control programmed in it but it is turned off. My local Citroen dealer has fitted the Citroen Cruise Control, connected it up and turned on the CC. They have been charging inthe region of £100 for the work. Any Citroen Agent can plug the car into the computer and check if the CC software is there, although not all will turn it on. (I think that they want to sell you a car with it fitted at extra cost.
