Hi everybody This is my first effort at posting-anywhere-I hope it works.
We have been Motor-homing for many years but are only fairly recent Outlook-Roma-homers in our retirement. We are still adjusting to the many downsizing aspects of same but, overall, wish we had done it sooner. Our main camping activities have always been walking (can't manage the bikes anymore) and enjoying the countryside.
Having also been adopted by a rescue yorkie Toby, access to walks direct from site to - forest, heathland, waterside, coastal etc - are becoming our no1 priority. We are trying to build up a list of such sites to extend our range of choices.
We would be most grateful if anyone can offer Info, Advice or WHY on this subject.

Hello Brian A big welcome to the forum, so glad you have found us, we are an ever growing family of small motorhomers, hope you enjoy reading and contributing to the posts. Regarding sites with walks direct from the site, Pauline and I love nothing better than finding a site where we can just leave the van on site and have a nice walk in the fresh air and countryside. I'm not sure where you are based but if you are anywhere near Derbyshire we can recommend Bakewell Camping and Caravanning Site and Hayfield Camping and Caravanning Site, we use both in summer and there are some lovely walks from both of them. The Hayfield site even sell a small booklet of about 10 or so walks that you do directly from the site. Also in the West Midlands Kingsbury Water Park is very pleasant with a vast area of country park to explore on foot, this site is also good for birdwatching and/or fishing if you are into any of those pursuits. We have got these sites reviewed on our main website HEREHope that helps, I am sure someone else will be along with more suggestions, meanwhile happy camping and happy hiking. Regards Graham

Hi Graham,
Many thanks for your reply.
We have been looking at posts on your forum for some time now and always find it informative and "friendly"so it will be good to also be able to interact. We live in Stafford and have already enjoyed visits to the sites you mentioned a few times.
We are cc club members but find some sites not as dog-friendly as others let alone the problen of direct access.
Forestry Commission sites are amongst our favourites and some smaller sites like Bridge House by the Thames in Lechlade which is ideal for our purposes plus shops within 5 mins walk.
I am sure that there must be many other sites, out there just waiting for us, which your members know about and may share with us.
In the meantime we will build up our list as time goes by and will share same with any like minded campers who are interested.
Can't wait for the new season to start.
Regards Brian, Sheila, and Toby.

For one of our meets we went to the CCC site at Devizes and there was a lovely walk direct from the site up the Caen Flight of locks with a nice coffee shop at the top. I remember Niqk the dog walked it and appeared to enjoy himself, perhaps Niqk has some more he can suggest?

Sorry Pauline I can only manage to walk to my food bowl, and a five minute stroll up the road and back, but I WILL see you all at Wolverley. My dad has just pumped up his bike tyres ready for the off, and I can see the van check list in his hand so he might be doing that this afternoon, I can also see a long pole sticking out of some sort of stand, in the front room, new TV aerial stand I think (hes always got to be fiddling with something). Any way he has just told me how good the new web site is and he thinks its great. See you all soon NIQK (and Martin)
