Which 'site' would you knowledgeable lot recommend as a back up for my photos. Would you also back up on a separate hard drive or are the sites enough??!!!

I regularly copy mine to a CD (just in case they decide to close down the internet one day..lol)

Hi Viv I, personally, would never put my pics on a 'site' it could go down and loose ALL your valuable pics, I am not saying they do go down but in my opinion they could, so why bother, use your own equipment to do the backups, to me its safer. I would suggest both external HDD and CD, but DVD is better because you can put a lot more pics on them. I have mine on 1 external HDD then copy them to another external HDD then copy to DVD -/+RW, so that I have 3 copies of each pic on different drives. HDD and DVD writers and DVDs are fairly cheap these days. Remember once your pics are lost it usually means forever. Depending on how you have lost them they may be recoverable. If lost on a 'site' would they then be recoverable, would they even bother  don't chance it Better to be safe than sorry, especially if they are important to you. HTH Martin P.S. to be totally safe you should put 1 of your backups I.E. DVDs in a different house, (they are not fire proof) if you get my drift, I don't do this but it is what the experts recommend. |
