Hi everyone,
Not long now before we catch up for the Summer meet, although it looks like it will be a small bunch of us this year!
I'm stuck at the Fire Service College for another two weeks yet, not home till the 26th June. Then working for a week before heading for Haltwhistle for the first leg of the hols.....can't wait.
I haven't tried to get us all pitched together this year as it is such a small site I didn't think we would need to worry, 50 pitches is going to be very much within seconds of each other!
We'll have an ask around when we get there about a good local pub for the meal on Saturday evening, assuming people want to go out? Shouldn't be a problem with Kendall so close anyway.
Looking forward to seeing you all, but not the rain, like last year!
Tim

Hi Tim
Yes Pauline and I are looking forward to meeting up again, not sure how many are definitely coming, can we have a roll call of all the people who have definitely booked.
A meal at a local pub would be OK with us.

Just been re-reading this thread, its not long now, I take it that Tim and Kris will be there by now, I think Joan said she was going on Thursday and we are going on Saturday till Monday, its looking like a small meet this time but it should be fun. Tim, Kris or Joan if you are reading this can you ask round about a decent pub for a meal, we won't be there till after 12 noon on Saturday so hopefully we can join you for a drink and meal on Saturday night. Lets hope the weather is good. Graham

Would you believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I started on Tuesday night with a sore throat, and yesterday had a whopper of a headcold, shivered and shaked all night.
This is the same as when I met up at Devizes, must be allergic that's all I can say.
But I am going, dosed up, ready to pass on any friendly germs, I am sure there will be some takers. ha ha
( I dont know where your smiley's are otherwise I would use the grinning one)

Hi Joan
Sorry to hear you are suffering, have you got a face mask you can put on? ;D
As you say you must be allergic to small motorhome meets.
Graham
P.S. All the regular smileys are just above the box as you are typing your post and there are extra ones to the left hand side where it says select smiley.

Wish I could come! Unfortunately, my landlord has decided to put the bungalow I live in up for sale, so I'm busy giving the place a wallop of paint. Isn't half irritating when you're not doing it for yourself, but because you have to. So I'm hanging on to every spare penny as I might have to move soon, or even live in my 'van! sorry to hear about your cold, Joan, I hope it goes away soon! Wrap up and keep warm!

Hi JayJay, sorry to hear that you will have to move. As for painting, give the landlord the job!!
Sorry Graham and Pauline, I am home!!!! Freda's front drivers caliper seized on! had new brake pads fitted, unfortunately the garage couldnt obtain the caliper, only recommended I drove locally, suggested I came home by RAC, which I have done. As my cold wasnt making me a happy bunny, caused me to vomit, so thought best to get home.
Arrived at 10pm, left Tim and Kriss there, all smiles, etc. they are looking forward to your visit, but think it will be a resturant not a pub for your meal. The weather was ok.I spent a good few hours in Penrith whilst Freda was being sorted out, and the weather was warm and dry.
We did have a short downpour about 6.30pm but it soon cleared, so hopefully it will be fine for your visit.
Joan
PS no smileys near my box

Hi, hope you all enjoyed your meal, sorry that I had to miss it.
Had a new caliper fitted, so that is all systems go, plus for the first time, I have driven in the dark since I replaced my old light bulbs, with the led bulbs and they are absolutely brilliant, they actually lite up the road! I never had to use my headlights at all on the A38.
Yes , Martin it must be 3yrs since the brake fluid was replaced, I shall mark my diary to check and change.
Cold has finally dried up, just a racking cough, and sore ribs, but hey the sun is shining!!!!!!!

Joan, what are the LED lights you have put on.
It is recommended by road safety experts that if you need to put on your lights you should put your diped headlights on aswell, just a thought.
Glad your brakes are OK now.

Hi Martin,
I always drive on dipped headlights, just that the A38 is an unlit road with some very black patches and I usually have to use full beam to light up my way.
Not sure if they are LED, but ages ago I think in Nov.07 there was a thread on here about light bulbs, (Derek I think) purchased from Consumabulbs. and I brought some and they are marvelous, my headlights were very yellow and not far reaching, you felt sometimes that you was just using a small torch. But no more, I have LIGHT just as good as my car. so I can see and others can now see me.
How is Niqk? Have been thinking of you and hope all is well.

Well, the new HB12's arrived this morning and they are halogen and they do fit. Cost for 2 bulbs was just under £10 post free from consumerbulb. Can't wait for it to go dark now to try them out.
HALOGEN lights( is there much difference between them and LED's)

Hi Jaon,
Yes I remember the thread about the light bulbs, I have them in mine and they are good arent they.
Glad you use diped headlights a lot of people think that side lights are good enough, but they are not, be seen be safe.
Niqk is still going, but not too good, walks very bad now and cant go too far, has a job in standing up and laying down, so I cant realy take him away with me. I am looking at not going away untill next year, because I think he wont lasts that long, he is still eating OK so that is something.
He has been a good friend to me so I wont let him suffer, and while he still seems happy enough I wont put him down either.
I will see you all some time in the future, but untill then we can chat here.
And thank you for asking,
Martin X

I know you wouldnt let him suffer, you are a good friend to him too. I have always driven with dipped lights, as you say side lights dont do much really. And I have done lots of night driving over the peak district. so I do appreciate good night vision.
It will be lovely to see you, whenever you are able to meet.

Cold has finally dried up, just a racking cough, and sore ribs, but hey the sun is shining!!!!!!! Hi Joan Sorry we missed you but glad to hear Freda is ok. Hope you feel fully fit soon. We nearly didn't make it as Graham was very poorly Friday being sick, thankfully he felt better Saturday so we decided to go. Had a lovely evening with Tim and Kris, found a pub in town which did nice food. Highlight (or lowlight!!) of the evening was being attacked by cows on the way home. We came back over the fields which had cows and calves in. One cow decided she didn't like the look of us and started charging at us then running away only to do it again and again. It was VERY scary to say the least and we thought we would all end up in the river (or worse). Luckily we made it to the stile with the cow still trying to see us off! Tim and Kriss - we saw her again the next day from the road and gave her a nasty look and shouted 'steak and chips' and 'MacDonalds' at her - that'll teach her! ;D Sunday was very sunny, had a nice day in Kendal, although you will be glad to hear that it did rain for a short shower so we didn't get a completely dry day! Managed a BBQ in the evening. Unfortunately this morning Graham was really poorly again so it was up to me to pack the van and drive us home with him thowing up into a bucket beside me! He's feeling much better now thankfully. Hopefully we will see you all again soon Joan - extra smileys should be in a box to the left of the bit where you type a reply, drop down menu called "select smilie" or you can choose to 'view all smilies'

Hi Pauline, Sorry to hear about Graham, hope that he recovers quickly, I was sick one night only and that was enough. Would have loved to have seen the cow They are fearful when they charge you, not nice at all, but you did get your own back - Mc Donalds. I have now found the smileys as you can see, but I have always used the quick reply box, which doesnt have them. Penrith is quite nice, didnt see anything of Kendal. Best wishes Graham get better soon Joan x

Thanks Joan, I am hopefully on the mend, I've had a slice of toast and managed to keep it down, which is good. Poor old Pauline had to drive all the way home, we normally do half and half but I wasn't fit for driving only chucking up in the bucket as we drove along, must have looked funny to anyone seeing us. The cow incident was really quite scary, we've been in fields with calfs before but never experienced that, cows are quite big animals when they are close up and aggressive. A good weekend though and we thoroughly enjoyed it, pity we didn't see you but Tim and Kris filled us in on all the details of your departure. Hope Freda is back on the road soon and you are feeling better too. Glad you found the smileys. Graham

Hi Graham, Pauline and Joan,
Joan, Glad to hear that Freda is back on the road and all brakes are fully operational. Shame you had to go but at least you had a knight in shining armour to talk you all the way home. Martin i think we have found a second person who can rival Joan on that front...lol
Graham, I hope the sickness has cleared up now, maybe it was the shock of being rampaged by a cow in a field. It did sort of round off what was a lovely evening, with good food and company to match. At least Pauline was on hand to drive you home and no doubt comfort you in your hours of ill health too.
I'm not sure that I would have chanced the McDonalds comment over the fence at that over protective mother cow, she seemed rather lively and bouncy to me, I could just see her chasing you down the road huffing and snorting again!! Kris was really convinced that one of us was going to end up sitting in the river too, if not all of us. It might have ended up being the only way round her.
Pauline you'll be glad to hear that on our first day back to work the forecast was wall to wall sunshine........I spent the day working in Great Yarmouth as suspected and it was wall to wall cloud with a 23mph wind and a temperature just about into double figures......hey ho summer may start sometime, but at least it didn't rain!!!!!

Hi Tim and Mike
Thanks for the good wishes I think I am over the worst, I've only had a slice of toast and 2 biscuits in 24 hours but at least I have lost nearly half a stone!
Pauline keeps nagging me to drink plenty of water to keep my fluids up but I think a week of complete rest is out of the question (although I like the idea), three of our little ones have just arrived and are raring to go running round the house and wanting me to join in ;D.

Hey you lot casting aspertions! He actually talked for the 3 hr journey home ;D BUT he was interesting, varied actitivies, he certainly doesnt have a boring life, variety is definitely the spice of life for our Roger. But the vehicle was SO comfortable and smooth, brilliant wing mirrors, so it was enjoyable all round. Pleased to hear that you are feeling better, unfortunately the weight loss soon returns to normal, with a couple of normal meals Well,Tim as you say it was at least dry, nothing more miserable than having to work in the wet. Hi to Kris, and good luck with your essays. Us women always look after you fellars, we are Marytr's. Joan

Hi Folks Well I can only say thanks for the entertainment! I take it you must be city folks if you are scared sick of cows, they are such gentle, sensitive creatures and such beautiful faces.
If you always have so much fun - when is the next get-together and please can you make it a little further down the country. I am from Cumbria so if I do go that far I like to make a holiday of it not just a couple of days. I also need notice to get off work.
And also you don't know - I may be able to save Graham from a wild rabbit or something equally scary.

I've never been scared of cows or even cows with their calves, but this was so scary and I will never take walking through a field of cows so lightly in future. She was actually charging at us and stopping just short, snorting and stuff, just liket he bulls do in a bull fight! Had she headbutted one of us I think there could have been a serious injury. I think Tim and Kris will agree that it was not at all pleasant! People have since told us that it's rare for a cow to attack unless you have a dog with you - I'm worried now what that says about me ;D

City folks eh....well I'm sure Kris would have something to say about that, coming from the back of beyond in Norfolk and growing up on a country estate!!
It was seriously the first time I have ever seena cow behave that way and I have done numerous rambles around the Norfolk countryside in and out of fields full of the more normal docile and loveable animals.
We decided that there had obviously been something happen with her calves for her to be so overprotective.
Pauline I'm more worried about what the dog thing says about me as I seemed to be the one she got closest to! I know I'm short and all that but surely she could see I was standing up ;D ;D
