Hi - my bedford rascal seats are absolutely worn out. Both top and bottom.
Basically they sit over the engine and as there isn't any good insulation under the seats (it should have a layer of some sort of insulating material, but that's in tatters) you get a warm bum when driving. Keep expecting the seats to catch fire!
I've been trying to find some better second-hand ones at a scrappy, but no luck so far.
Is there any sort of insulating material I could perhaps glue or staple to the base of the seats as a temporary repair until I can get my hands on some?
Is there any sort of asbestos type sheeting that would do the job?
This was mentioned in another thread somewhere as there's another poster (can't remember who though) who was asking the same question.

You cant use Asbestos of any description, but I did note you said 'type'. Reflective stuff as you use behind your radiators at home, as this reflects the heat back, it may cause your engine to overheat. A fire blanket?

It's from a place called Noisekiller UK www.noisekiller.co.uk/sound_proofing_vehicles_03.phpsomething called noisekiller lead lined acoustic blanket material. They are sending me some, the smallest amount they do which has cost £45 with postage. If it works it will be money well spent! I still have to find some way to attach it when it arrives (not come yet) but if I can work that out, then it should be ok. Jacki

Thanks Jacki I don't want to pay that much though, I think I'll patch it up with somekind of heat resistent tape. My current focus is keeping my fingers crossed for its MOT on Monday ... Marc

Marc Fingers crossed for the MOT Marc! I hope all goes well and she passes first time! Just finished the job... it's brilliant stuff, can recommend. Certainly not cheap but well worth the money. Not only keeps the heat from going where it shouldn't, but is also accoustic and should cut down the noise in the cab a bit. I now have shiny bottoms! ;D ;D More detailed explanation in Ask Ant section!
