Tyre Size/Pressure cor Citroen Romahome

I am sure I have seen at least a partial answer to this on the forum, but my searches for Tyre/Wheel/Pressure/Sizes does not seem to produce any threads.
I have a 1990 Citroen C15D Romahome and can not find any real guide to what Tyres (Size/Make etc) Should be fitted, I am pretty sure my van has normal car tyres (Max press 35psi) and believe I have seen somewhere that rear pressures should be 40 psi.
Any help on Tyre Make/Size/Pressures would be apreciated

Hi Chris.
A 1990 C15 will be on 155 R 13 reinforced tyres if the chassis number has PP in it, if the chassis number ( VIN Number) has PB in it then you may have light wt tyres as the chassis is a 600kg rather than a 765kg. Either way I would fit the reinforced tyres and put 40 psi in the front and 45psi in the rear.

This is a question I was going to ask as my tyres have a good tread, but appear to be cracking on the sidewalls so I don't think they will pass the mot. However, googling "155 R 13 reinforced tyres" to get an idea of the price, I can't find any mention of them. I can find "175 R 13 reinforced" and "155 R14 8 ply"

Would the 8ply ones be ok or, if not, do you know where I might get the reinforced ones?

I had to replace 2 tyres on our daihatsu, they were 155 R12 reinforced. Cost me £33 apiece fitted from a local tyre place ( private, not a big chain). Every one I phoned for a quote said they needed to phone me back because they didn't even list 12" tyres any more.

I was told that the tyres need to be reinforced as they are for a van and need to be able to withstand a heavy payload.

I'm sure Ant will be able to help further but I would suggest giving a few tyre depots a call directly rather than via the net.

Hi Jean.
The 155 R13 tyres I use are Max Miler tyres I charge £40 + vat each inc valve and balance. It can be difficult to get them sometimes so the garage I use to fit them for me buys them 24 at a time so they have plenty of time to get some more.
8 ply tyres are normally fine, just check they will carry 495Kg each. Don't be tempted to change the size of the tyres to 165 R 13 0r 175 R13 and certainly not any 14 inch tyres there isn't really enough room in the rear wheel arches. I have seen Romahomes on 165 R13 tyres but nearly all of them have shown signs of touching the inner wheel arches as if the radius arm bushes had failed.
So stick to the 155 R13 there out there somewhere.

And thank you, Ant. I have spoken to the guys who usually fit my tyres....duh! don't know why I didn't ask them in the first place....and I asked a few questions:-

• They are 8 ply
  
• They will carry 495Kg+
  
• They are roughly the price you quoted
  
• The make will either be 'Sonar' or 'Nan Kang'
  

At this point I freaked a bit, but he said they had been fitting these korean tyres for 25years with no problems.
Do you think these would be ok?

If given the choice I would go with the Nankang, I've tried both and the Sonar side walls started to perish quite early in their lives, long before the tread was worn out.
Nankang actually make most of Dunlops tyres!

I agree with Ant.
I put Nankang on our C15 and I was so impressed with them compared with other cheap tyres that I have used that I fiited them to our Berlingo Multispace when it needed new tyres.
I got mine from the Internet through a company called blackcircles. They can arrange local fitting.

Thanks to you both for your advice. I've just been to check, as my tyres are starting to crack on the sides even though the tread is as good as new, and guess what!!?? Sonar!! So I will insist that they order the Nankang tyres.

Have had the new tyres fitted.....only to discover that my front n/s shock absorber is leaking oil!

My 'little man' is on holiday this week so I don't know if leaking oil means a new oil seal or new shock absorbers. Any ideas, Ant, as if it means new shock absorbers I need to order them to be sure to have them for when my man gets back on Monday as she is due an mot on Tuesday.

Hi Jean

Your C15 has what they call Macpherson struts at the front for the suspension.

They are not usually repaired. New ones will cost about £30 per side to buy plus fitting.

Two helpful web sites for Citroen parts are:

GSF

Both allow you to buy from the Internet or over the counter if there is a local branch.

I have used both companies for years and have always found then really helpful

Hi jean.
Peter's right about the 2 suppliers of Citroen parts, but I would take it to the MOT and act on any advisory notices you get from that. The MOT allows shock absorbers to be leaking a bit so long as they still work. I'm always amazed how much of a leak is acceptable to the MOT standard. If they fail it on the leak you can get the part over the counter the same day so you shouldn't be stranded for long. GSF have a place in Plymouth so your " Little man" could get the part if he needs it when he's back. If they advise on the leak at the MOT you need to get it done sometime during the year.

Thank you both (again!) for your advice. I think I will do as you suggest, Ant, and act on the advice of the mot people...any extra money I am spending at the mo is coming out of my 'tour de France' fund so the less I spend, the longer my trip!! ;D
