Despite the overwhelming lack of interest in my message about the excellent Lidl camping satellite system, let me draw your attention to the fact that this week Aldi will also have a similar system available and it's even cheaper: £59.00 odd). If you want telly in your van, particularly overseas, this is the way to go. You'll thank me in the end.... ;D Doug

Northern France, etc should be OK - but much further down, and I fear it's gonna be zilch - without a much bigger dish. My daughter lives in Spain - about an hour south of Barcelona - and to pick it up there needs about a 2 metre dish. Always ready to be proved wrong, though - give it a go!! Mike

Mike
Here's some comments from another forum:
"The dish is big enough to receive south beam astra all over Spain (Sky News, BBC News 24, CNN etc.) and C5, Five US, Five Life with a Sky box and card It will pick up 2d (ITV,BBC,C4) as far south as the Pyrenees.
Have used Lidl Sat' system as far away as Rome and Bern, though it won't pick up BBC and ITV in those places. 100,s of other channels though. If I remember right I think I got BBC radio stations anywhere."
Soooo, you never know - it may travel a bit further than N. France.

I might have been interested but not long invested in a freeview portable television for the van and it works OK, obviously doesn't work in the France but we don't take a telly to France anyway.
Thanks for the info though.

OK on that, Doug - I'm really surprised it has that coverage on such a tiny dish - maybe I'll rethink taking it with us when we venture abroad again.
Trouble is - like the Hylo before it, the Bongo doesn't have loadsa spare space, especially when loaded for a prolonged holiday - and every item needs to "prove" it's need to be included!!
I'm chasing after one of these new Humax Freesat High Definition boxes at the moment - should be great on our HD ready tv - I won't pay Sky's exhorbitant prices, just to get HD pictures - but this Freesat is a one-off £150, with no subscription charges.

Mike I haven't got into HD. I assume you are talking about home use now? We only got a satellite for the van because: Celia wants to keep up to date with East Enders I can't resist the opportunity to buy gadgets. The freesat service will be available to any fta system although, of course, the benefits of HD will be limited to those with HD tellys and I'm guessing there won't be that many in Motorhomes but maybe I'm wrong there. Hi Doug,
Here's your long awaited vote of thanks. I've been using an indoor aerial for my small tv/dvd in Rhonda but the signal wasn't good. I was about to invest in an outdoor aerial and mast (at around £50) when I read your post. Popped along to Aldi today and picked up the satellite dish for £59.99 as you promised. Got it home, sorted out the cables and stuff, pointed the dish out the flat window and lo and behold, a brilliant picture and choice of channels ;D
Haven't tried it out in Rhonda with the wee set yet but if it works indoors I have high hopes. I would recomend this to anyone considering switching to satellite, especially given that the price for satellite dishes on camping websites is around £300 and upwards.
Thanks again,
Sooz.
