Hi Ant, my son and I have brought a caravan a Compass but it has some minor damage to the GRP body. It has been repaired with normal fibreglass filler but it is rough and dull.
Can you suggest a product with which we may re-do this repair with, so that it is smooth and shiny??
Many thanks - Joan
No - Freda is staying!!!!!!

Hi Joan. Some GRP repairs are quite difficult if there isn't the thickness of GRP in the first place. Many Caravans just have a GRP trim rather than anything structural like a Romahome. If the area you want to repair is thin and made weak by the damage you'll need to put some 'glass matting and resin behind the area to be repaired. That done the weakened bit will now be strong enough to grind out any loose bits and fill the effected area. To get a smooth finish I would use P38 filler. Don't try and fill the whole area at once as you're bound to get air bubbles and odd dips and bumps. rub down the first lot of filler with some 250 grade wet n dry ( use it wet), dry the area off and apply the second bit of filler as thinly as you can so as to fill any dip or bubbles. Rub this with firstly 320 grade, then 400, then 600, then 1200 wet n dry. When you've done that the area should be ready for paint, if you been patient while rubbing it down there will be very little refinishing required after painting and it should look like new! Theres no such thing as a quick GRP repair if you want a good smooth finish. Ant
