I've never had to use the fridge in the Dimension on gas but this coming weekend, I will have to. The question is, the gas bottle is getting low. Is there some sort of warning to tell you that the bottle is empty and the fridge is no longer working or do you just have to wait until you notice the butter's gone runny? ;D

Weigh the bottle. The CC handbook (page 627) gives the weights of all LPG cylinders setting out the weight of gas together with the weight of gas + cylinder. Subtract one from t'other and you have the weight of empty cylinder. You can then see from your weighing how much gas you have left. Eezy peezy.

Hi Doug. The best sign of no gas to the fridge will be the ignitor clicking away trying to relight the fridge. Ant

Hi doug - the fridge doesn't use a lot of gas - mine is only a two way, so I always use gas. It uses more initially to cool down, then you can turn it to low. I cool mine down with ice pack blocks en-route so it uses less gas for the initial cooling period.
I find if you can swish the bottle about and hear the gas swishing in it (disconnect it first before you try this - LOL), it will probably last for a weekend, when there's no swishing sound, it's empty! If you're using the gas cooker as well, then boiling a kettle uses a lot!
After a while you get to know how full it is by how heavy it is when you pick it up, plus swishing to gas around inside.

Thanks all, I'll do some weighing and swishing and listen out for clicking - it all sounds very straight forward and entertaining.
We have not emptied our first gas bottle yet which came with the van in August last year. I have a spare bottle ready and waiting (and raring) for it's turn in action.

You can't miss the clicking, especially if it runs out in the middle of the night it even wakes me up! If it does run out then we just turn off the igniter and go back to sleep and change the bottle in the morning. It won't cool down much in a couple of hours if you don't open the door.
