Well, Halfpenny is the name of my beloved Romahome. I am Lena. We traveled together to South France, the Alps, Cornwall etc… We are very glad to find your Forum – so much of useful information and very friendly folks! My de-mountable Halfpenny is a bit sick at the moment – needs replacement of the base (it’s currently Suzuki Carry and dead). I know there are conversion specialists in Bristol, but transportation from Cambridge does not look easy. Does anyone know of anyone in Cambs or around (professional or amateur) able and willing to move my Halfpenny to a new base (probably Honda of Daihatsu)? Any tip would be appreciated. Have a great camping, guys!

Hello and welcome Lena and Halfpenny
Its great to have you on here, can't help you with changing your base, the conscensus of opinion by the experts seems to be that its not a good idea and you are better off getting another Romahome with original base.
Having said that as you say people do change them, best of luck and happy camping.

Hi Lena
A body swap on a dismountable isn't rocket science, could you ask a towbar fitter as they will be familiar with rear end electrics and they often need to drill holes.
Best to change to the same model of base vehicle though, it can be fiddly if the pickup bed and cab are different.
Do you have the front jacks? They will be needed.

Hi, Graham and Derek, Thank you for help – it is always good to consider all PROs and CONs! So, now I’ve got an idea of who could do it for me, and – yes! – I do have two jacks! The next thing is to get a new base. My current one is the old Suzuki Supercarry – they are not produced any more, and the new Suzuki Carry will not fit. Let me try another question to the world: If anyone moved a de-mountable Romahome shell from the old Suzuki Supercarry to a new base – what was the model of that new base and whether your transplant was successful?
Thank you for advice, guys!

Hi Lena I have some pics of a Bedford Rascal demountable (Rascal was a Suzuki sort of) which has been re-mounted onto the newer model Suzuki. The cab roof is higher on the new Suzuki than the old one so the pod has been raised on the cab bed with lengths of timber. It does not look elegant but does the job. I am sure that someone with the necessary skills could make it look tidy. I didn't get to speak to the proud owner but took the liberty of taking some pics. Hope this is of some help Derek
