The outrageous price of diesel got me wondering roughly how much diesel these use per hour of heating - I know it will vary, but does anyone know what the likely range is? (Mine is a fairly recent unit, as fitted to a Dimension II)

Hello Derek - don't seem to see your name up on here very often nowadays!! Still delighted with my 24v Webasto Air Top 2000 heater I installed in the Bongo. Having a large leisure battery, when it's running, it takes just under 1 amp - only rising to about 4 amps on initial start-up. I actually bought another, an older 12v model recently on eBay - didn't seem to be many bidding for it - probably because of the time of the year - hot weather, and no sign of rain!! ;D Not sure what I'll do with it yet - but it was a bargain - and I can't resist a bargain!! Had it running in the garden - takes about 8 amps on startup, dropping to just under 2 amps running. You can hear the pulse pump clicking - so I would guess less than 1/2 litre diesel per hour - not bad for 2kW of heat. Mike

Thanks Derek, great link. (Now why didn't I think of looking at the manfacturer's web site? !!) Don't worry Sid, we all get forgetful as we get older. ;D Hi Mike, have you sorted that Bongo yet? Last time you mentioned it you had the seats out and were going to build a bed platform. I bet you are sleeping on the floor still. We have just parted with the Hylo and I have permission to look for a Bongo or Freda, I am in no rush as we have just been to Cornwall in the Hylo. If the right one comes along I will grab it. I will be bending your ear for advice Derek

Funny you should mention THAT bed - 'twas only last week that I scrapped the idea!! I had bought the 18mm ply last year - but could only store it upright in the lounge - behind the settee - result it warped, badly. I was out there trying to measure up, allowing for the warps - when I thought, no - chuck the lot out - and put the seat back in!! It would have been comfortable - but would have severely restricted the versatility of the Bongo. So, the Hylo is no more, then? Strange, isn't it - ours was a beauty - but neither of us would swap one for the Bongo again, in spite of the Romahome comfort. The Bongo seems to put a smile on our faces everytime we use it - a great driving position, and the auto box really is nice - especially with the cruise control I eventually got around to fitting!! Only thing I miss is the economy - getting about 31mpg from the Bongo. The Bongo Fury site is a mine of info - expect you've seen it. Any help I can give you with your choice, you only need to ask, pal. Mike

Hi Derek What about your dog? I remember you once saying that a Bongo wasn't suitable for her as she liked sleeping in the aisle in the Hylo. Also excuse my ignorance but what is a Freda? Graham

Graham Hi Graham, Mazda Bongo and Ford Freda are the same vehicle, like Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner. I think we can sleep Meg at the back of the Bongo in her bed. I will take out the rear seats anyway and use the front seats and middle bench for our bed. She can ride between the front seats and the middle bench seat. Like Mike, I will not bother with a full conversion. Derek

Hi Joan Do you know after I had posted that, Pauline mentioned that your van was called Freda and she said you would be after me ;D Apologies to Freda, hope she doesn't try to get revenge when she sees me at the meet. Graham (desparately trying to dig myself out of a hole)

Freda's ok now, she has stopped leaking, and is thinking on about her revenge!!!! she does have a long memory, so perhaps you will have to sweeten her up, when you next meet.
