Not wishing to get people crying in their cornflakes but----
Does anyone have any idea how the forthcoming Vehicle Tax banding based on emissions is going to affect the cost of running their pride and joy campervan. I have no idea what the thinking is about vehicles like ours but Im hoping it wont be a bad one.My Mazda Bongo (grey import) has a conversion fitted and is registered as a Motorcaravan,as far as I can establish had it been still registered as a MPV as it was first built in Japan it would be less favourably looked at.Also its a two wheel drive which should rule it out of the BIG 4x4 proposed rise too (some Bongos are 4x4).
I do hope it doesnt go ridiculous with this I just wondered had any other members given it any thought?

Hi Dabs, all very depressing isn't it! I have no idea how your Bongo will be affected, I'm afraid, but I think whether or not it's a 4x4 is irrelevant. The heaviest increases in the reformed rates don't target 4x4's specifically, they target any vehicle (registered after March 2001) that's in the top band for emissions.

Further to this, you can see the proposed rates for cars (which would include MPVs) here: www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/Budget2008/DG_073093What isn't clear (to me, anyway) is what the proposed rates are for LGVs, which is what most campers/motorhomes under 3.5 kg are taxed as. Currently it's a flat rate £180 annual, not banded by emissions like cars.

Hi Dabs, The way I understand it is that if your tax disc is light goods vehicle now it won't change, will still be £180. I read an article a couple of months ago somewhere about it but can,t remember where. If I find it I will let you know.
