My van's insurance is up for renewal this week. I'm currently with Safeguard. Just thinking of getting some comparative quotes so I was wondering who other forum members are with? I looked at some of the "comparing" websites like gocompare.com (even though their name is a horrible Americanism ) and they don't seem able to cope with motorhomes. Doug

Hi Doug
It would be interesting to see what you are quoted and by whom. We have found it quite difficult to compare like for like as they all seem to offer bits and pieces and differences. We are with Saga and it costs £270.87 and £66 for breakdown cover with AA (combined policy) this includes home start.
I usually do a comparison before I renew it each year and that was the best last time.

Hi Doug
We are with SAGA fully comp, 60% protected no claims bonus, £100 excess, including Legal Protection and Personal Accident cover all for £172.74 for our Dimension.
I used 3 comparison sites and this quote was by far the best.

Graham, this is a really good price at £100 cheaper than our price. I shall be phoning them in the morning and checking it all out. It can't be that much more just by postcode. We too are protected no claims and not sure of our excess. Just shows you the what the differences can be and I knocked them down by quoting RIAS price.

Considering my youthful looks, its a good job they don't ask for a photo as they'd never believe me Unfortunately the window didn't get done (not Ant's fault), the courier didn't turn up with the part and we had to be back today for work, so we are going to have a camping weekend down that way in a few weeks and Ant will fit it then. Hi
Very interesting! I spoke to Saga this morning and asked how there could be so much difference (£100 almost 1/3) with the insurance costs on fairly similar costing vehicles ie Dimension and Outlook. Apparently it is down to post code, age of driver, (£4.33 pa extra because I am down as named driver and I am 3 years younger!!!) value of vehicle, annual expected mileage and where the vehicle is kept, also of course the number of claims and penalties/convictions (not applicable for us at moment). It is all calculated to a formula and that is that!!!!
Oh well, I will certainly be looking around in next few days so I can be ready to change if I can get anything cheaper. Will check car out as well.

Hi Viv I think the secret is to change every year I find that new customers will get a good deal just to get their custom. I have no doubt next year that my SAGA insurance will increase and I will have to go elsewhere. I always use the comparison sites, I find that they work really well. Lots of good advice HEREI insured the car at the same time and interestingly SAGA didn't come out best for that one, because Post Office had a £50 cashback scheme at the time so I went with them. Hi Graham
I agree with you about changing,we got several quotes this year and Saga were almost the best. They did come down when I told them about one other a bit cheaper so I stayed with them. My sister is with Age concern and hers is a good price. Problem for vans is that some do not cover them and Saga price is cheaper if you do both vehicles with them.
Ah well I have lots of time to check it all out before I renew next year.
Happy camping.
