Coming back from London today on the M4, we passed a small van that had a kind of Romahome "look" about it. It was based on a 1980's or early 90's looking Toyota and had the words "Family Camper" on the side. Anyone know what it was?

Having seen earlier today (5th April, 2009) a vehicle offered for sale in the Salisbury Tesco Car park I googled: Toyota "family camper" Romahome
and hit upon this forum - registered so I could share a little more details.
The advert in the window confirmed that it was a Romahome conversion.
It appears to have been based on a Toyota pick up - uncertain age as there was a personalised number plate. The back end appears to offer much the same layout and facilities as a Bambi.
There is a pop-top which hinges at the front and looks to have material sides - a bit was caught and showing to the outside.
Originally must have been a very fine piece of fibre-glass work - now showing its age a bit - but no crazing. The joint above the cab section looked as though it has had to be resealed at some time - and there are some complicated joints at places.
The price asked was 5,000 pounds - I didn't take the phone number :-(

Hi Mildred
Welcome to the forum, this family camper certainly seems to be a rare breed, I wonder if the one you saw is the same one as Snobbyafghan saw?
Perhaps there's only one in the country. It'll be interesting to see if anyone else has any knowledge of them.
Perhaps our Romahome expert Ant will know of them.

I'm sure the beastie could not have been a Romahome propper, the only Romahome I know that was fitted to a Toyota was the Suntrekker. This was a demountable but was a fixed hitop with an option to be a 4 berth, quite a similar layout to the Romahome C15 but with a bit more space and cupboards. It may be a Suntrekker that got damaged and someone has rescued it by removing the top and put a lift up roof on it. Ant
