Me and Pauline did something we haven't done for ages today (before Yamaha jumps in - its not that! ;D), we went blackberrying. Got a lovely tubful of blackberrys and then on the way home we did some scrumping for apples, well actually these apples were windfalls from someones garden that had fell on the road.
When we got home I (yes Moya me) made a blackberry and applepie with the help of my trusty bero cookbook.
Just about to have dinner so will let you know what it tastes like, it looks lovely. Hope its as good as mother used to make.

I have to report that even though I say it myself the blackberry and apple pie was bloody marvellous.

Must be the air up your way! I went for a walk yesterday in the Chilterns and we picked a few blackberries along the way but they were tasteless. Maybe it is just my taste buds getting a bit old!
I do remember the yummy taste of hand picked blackberry and apple pie and I bet yours tasted just as good, pity you can't send some over the Wifi.

When we got home I (yes Moya me) made a blackberry and applepie with the help of my trusty bero cookbook. Graham Wow I am impressed Graham. What is a bero cookbook? Could I teach Roger to cook with it? Got back from our hols last Sunday so catching up with all the posts. Just as well I got my spare wheel on here just before we went as we had a puncture in the rear tyre on the way to Cornwall. Got the RAC out to change it. Totally ruined (a stanley blade stuck in it) so had to buy a new one when we got to Truro so we had a spare again. Congratulations again on what sounds like your scrumptious pie.

We got it ages ago by sending off a coupon on the back of a packet of Bero flour. These days of course you can get them via the website HEREI'm sure if Roger had a go he would be able to make a nice pie, if I can anyone can! Sounds like you had a good holiday, shame about the puncture but I suppose it could have been worse. Graham

Bero was the best cook book ever. Derek & I were at a detecting rally yesturday and my machine packed up so I toddled off in search of blackberries. I managed to find enough to make a decent sized blackberry& apple pie and possibly a crumble too. Pity Derek is away for the week. ;D

Thanks for that Graham. I have never heard of Be-ro flour before. Maybe it's not sold in this part of the world. I have had a look at the recipes - makes me think I ought to start doing more baking again. I have got lazy and don't tend to make cakes and pies anymore. The trouble with me is if I have cake in the house I can't leave it alone! The puncture left us £68 poorer but to be honest we thought it would have cost more as they are commercial tyres. Never mind could have been worse.

Hi Moya
Its funny but just lately I have cravings for pies and cakes, I've got a theory that as we get older we get a sweeter tooth.
When we go away in the van we always take a cake with us and the first thing we do when we get to the campsite is put the kettle on and make a coffee and have a piece of cake, hopefully sitting outside in the sunshine.
We love sitting there with our cake and coffee watching the caravan in the next pitch that arrived at the same time as us take the next 2 hours to get set up. ;D

I don't know about an age thing, we started motorhoming over thirty years ago and took cake which didn't last long with two young kids. And we still take cake for that first pot of tea, and it still doesn't last long with just two of us!
