Hi Graham, I think I was simply 'Jacquie' before, but the ole memory plays tricks.... JacSprat has followed me from motorhomefacts.co.uk. After about 6 months in France (a lot of it working), I'm quite happy to be home for a while. I spent nearly two months in the Pyrenees near Pau during which it rained or was freezing (or both)most of the time. Did a little hiking but usually in conditions that more closely resembled Snowdonia in the winter than the South of France in the Spring! I used Aires de Camping Cars almost exclusively and met plenty of like minded folk on the way. The area is DEFINITELY a wonderful and well-kept secret and I hope to return when it's a little less soggy. When my job ended, I headed east to catch some rays, loosely following the Canal de Midi on the way. More wonderful Aires and easy stops in beautiful places! I found my way to St Remy, in the Alpilles, and stayed at my favorite albeit basic little campsite, Camping Verte a la Ferme, where as a solo with dog and hook up, my bill for seven days was only €56 (about £45). From there, I headed to a beachside Aire just outside Marseille (I'll try to upload a photo) and spent three glorious days watching the ships come in and eating beautiful fish coming off the boats. I took the train into Marseille and had an exhausting but exhilarating time just wandering around. From there, I was off to one of my treasured secrets in the Vaucluse, the exquisitely isolated Camping Municipal de Murs. Two weeks on the high Plateau de Vaucluse amidst the pines and scrub oak of the maquis, not far from the very well-known villages of Gordes and Rousillion. From here, I simply hiked and cycled everywhere. It was hot, sunny and just gorgeous. Alas, it was only marred by the fact that I had to later attend a job (I'm a freelance chef) in La Trayas, near Cannes. Fourteen days straight in a 40 degree kitchen took the smile off my face. There was so much more - I think I'll have to do a 'part two' some other time. I really took it slowly, following the Alps up, then back over to Burgundy where I have some family and a little cabin in the woods, then over to Alsace for the first time. Watch this space! Congrats again, grandpere! Jacquie

Wow, what an adventure you certainly sound like a plucky lady doing all that travelling with just your doggy for company.
Great pictures, look forward to reading part 2.

Graham Poor dog is the only one who can put up with me! J PS Just read your hilarious trials with the Movelite Square. Just bought one a couple of days ago and put it up (alone of course) for the first time day before yesterday. I don't have an awning rail or a rain gutter, and my van is just a little too high anyway. I found the fixing solution on another motorhoming website - suction cups! The kind used for picking up glass, etc. They only cost a few quid and work perfectly, keeping everything secure even during the very gusty last couple of nights. Easy to remove as well. There was another tip - separate the poles at the elbows (this means cutting the elastics, then knotting them at each section. You would end up with 6 seperate sections of poles) and slide in the roof section first, then the leg sections should be much more manageable. Haven't done it myself yet, but it makes sense. I won't boast how long it took me to put mine up the first time (20 mins, alone of course!) ;D Jacquie

Plenty of tent-putting-up experience pre-Romahome days. I DO think it would be an interesting contest event at a future rally, seeing as there are plenty of Movelites in the club. Especially if there was a pint or two up for grabs!
