Has anyone used one of these fitted bags that go on a bike carrier? They seem to be ideal for the dirty things like wedges and slip mats, water hoses and waste piping. The only downside seems to be the quick release might mean quickly stolen if extra security isn't added. Mind you, a bag with that lot in would be mighty heavy to take away. But it would mean I could delve in to use the blocks or mats as needed then put the whole thing in the awning, fold the bike rack up and be back to a normal length van. Any thoughts? Colin

Yep - brilliant bit of kit - but mine's a Khyam Cargo Rack, not a bike rack. Here's ours on the Bongo in France last year. Khyam say it's up to the customer to secure the bag onto the rack - which I found strange - so I tackled the problem by attaching a piece of varnished ply to the top of the carrier, cut some slots in to line up with the nylon feet on the bag - drilled a hole in each foot - then used "R" clips to trap the feet in position. Works great - we used the bag for bulky bedding items which took up lots of valuable room inside the van - also an added advantage when we left the bag in the awning, and went off for day trips, the carrier made a superb camping table!! Bikes? What - push bikes? No, not us - too much like hard work!! We like our two-wheelers to have an engine!! Mike

Thanks Mike, I had not heard of that carrier but will have a look. As for bikes, we carried them all round the country last year on a six week holiday - and never took them off the carrier. We only use them for trips to get shopping when we do not want to move the van. However, having decided they were no longer needed-in France this year the quick hardening baguette needed early morning replacement trips- no bikes- had to walk to nearest village. So perhaps the bag for UK and sliced bread, and bike for France and fresh croissants! Decisions, decisions, and there is still the Pickering Show next week and the NEC next month. Who knows what we might find to discuss there?
